Wedding Photographer - Ayrshire

Options
Planning a wedding for 18th April 2009 - Can anyone recommend a good photographer in this area for a reasonable price - Don't want to spend more than £400 really, had a few quotes of £1,000 upards - I'm not spending a months salary for a photographer for 2 or 3 hours work

Contact www.brownphotography.co.uk They are based in Paisley but we got married in Stirling and they travelled without any charge. We paid for package A which now that I think about it we should have just went for AB cause we could have just got our own prints. He stayed as long as we wanted him to and we got some fantastic pictures and he had the cd ready the next day. We actually got it £100 cheaper as we booked at last years prices so if you were to book now and the prices went up you would still get this years prices.

My wedding pics are on my bebo page, http://emmalouisebee.bebo.com There are a few wedding albums on there but the official pics are in the wedding pics album if you want a look.

I think if you have only £400 for a photographer then you'll be disappointed. Wedding packages are regularly close to £1000 and higher as you've already found out.
As for it only being a "2 or 3 hours", think again.
I took photos with a mate at a wedding. we were both ther from around 1pm till around 5pm. After that i sorted through all our photos (around 800 in total) picked out the best ones, used photoshop where necessary (thankfully not much), my mate then arranged around 70prints, bought an album and mounted all the shots in the album for presenting to the couple.
All in all i spent EASILY 10hours on that wedding and my mate would have been slightly less.

To think it's only a couple of hours is a bit out but even my mate and i who are a couple of good amatuers with quality gear, we charged £450 and that was a bargain a year ago.

You'll either have to rethink your budget, seriously compromise what you want from ther photographer or get a member of the local camera club to do it - these clubs often have guys who do that as a sideline.

We're looking at small selection of photos - after the ceramony - looking to spend no more than an hour for pics. Trying to do this on a budget - £1000 like I say is a months income - I just can't justify that after the cost of the wedding. Will be lucky if we will spend that much on the honeymoon. Even for someone to spend 10 hours on the whole job at £1000 - £100 per hour - I'd rather do without pictures than pay that - My solicitor doesn't charge as much as that.
A £1000 on pics is fine if your one of these people lucky enough to be able to spend £20,000 on a wedding (A years wages before tax!!!)
Also not worried too much about the prints and the album - am more than willing to do that myself if I can get some high quality pics on a CD

If anyone knows some amatures that would be willing to do it i'd be intrested in recommendations. Looking for some money saving ideas here

Like i said, try your local camera club - there are usually some good photographers at these clubs who regularly shoot weddings - that's been the case with any clubs I've been involved in.
If no member will do it then they might have a friend who would.

just flicked through replies so sorry if this has been said but on the weddings board there is a list of wedding/civil partner photographers under £500 and its listed by area. A few people have said "I used so and so" so you could PM and ask what they were like.

don't forget you can haggle with photgraphers and there are MANY success stories of getting much cheaper photgraphs than the £1k quoted! You can also tailor your package to skip the morning getting ready thing and the evening reception. When I get married i'm getting official photos at the ceremony (1 hour) and for another hour before the reception and thats all, i'm not wasting my special day posing  Everyone has a digital camera these days, i'll get the guests to email them and of the hundreds of photos taken i'll pick out the best to keep.

Don't know if you have been scanning the wedding boards but they really are good with ideas about every area of budget and not so budget weddings. Best of luck and stick to your guns...

link to thread, not sure if it works though:

Darich: Really good idea about the camera club, will look into that in my area.

Have a look at this site -

    http://www.airimage.co.uk/

Brian is a really lovely guy, he took all the photos for the string quartet I play in, and he does lovely wedding photos. He really puts you at ease - and gets the best out of the occsion.

He's based in Prestwick, and it would be worth you getting in touch with him, even just for a chat about what you would like; we found him reasonable for the excellent results we got.

Have you tried going to some of the many wedding fayres that are on in Ayrshire right now? You could chat to the photographers and negotiate prices. My quartet offers "price if booked today" offers at such events. Worth a try!
