I am going to try advertising the car on Auto Exchange, spoken to the Finance company and they are ok with me selling the car as long as they get paid, I am off out in a minute to do the interview at the job centre to get JSA, and hand out my CV's in loads of local pubs

    Wish me luck!

Set yourself a target of say Must apply for at least 3 jobs every day. Sign up with every agency going, look on www.gumtree.com, plus all the regular job sites, post your CV on Monster, make applying for work your full time job at the moment, you will be surprised at how quick you get work once you approach it right. Good luck, keep us posted!
  • Hi AJ,

    Good luck with all this.

The problem with buying a car on finance is just what you are finding out now - what happens when you can't really afford the payments any more. I did the same, so you're in good company. Never again - I only buy (second hand) cars with cash I actually have in the bank from now on!

What I ended up doing was selling my car back to the dealership. I phoned around several dealerships to get the best possible price but lost about £1500 on the purchase price.

I notice, however, you say that your dealer won't have your car back? How did this come about - surely they would offer a pretty low amount or would their offer not cover the outstanding loan costs?

Anyway, my advice would be try to sell it back to a dealer - if not the one you bought it from, then a specialist car dealer or another franchised dealer. You really need to get rid of it fast, before it eats your money completely. I didn't have much luck with the Autotrader route - perhaps you should try Gumtree as it's free?

    Anyway, good luck!

  • I just checked on Autotrader and Dodge Calibers start at £9,750 and only 3 are below £10,200. Looks like you should be able to get enough to at least pay off the loan.

Give us some details - how old is it (55/06/56/07?) and what model is it?
