My diet blog

Hi everyone

I'm not sure of the best place for my diet blog - please let me know if I ought to move it!

I am really struggling with my diet - I have gained over a stone recently which leaves me with 1 stone and 3 pounds to lose to get to an "ok" weight.

I have joined ww online and am getting weighed weekly but I actually haven't changed my habits but just managed to somehow fit them into ww - all this means that since Christmas I have lost a very small amount of 2.5 pounds.

So, in an attempt to give myself a kick, I thought I would try a little blog - if nothing else it will serve as a reminder to me of how I have been doing when I read back.

Monday 16 February
I am going to call this Day 1.
My food plan for the day

Breakfast - special K with a banana and skimmed milk for breakfast. I have now started to have my breakfast at work which means I have it a little later (around 8am) so Im not so hungry for lunch.

Snack - Apple and satsuma

Lunch - cottage cheese and crackers - I really enjoy this and its convenient to take to work and have at my deks (I rarely take a break)

Snack - Apple and cereal bar

Dinner - I have a low calorie pizza from MandS - I need to have this toay because it's already out of date! I will try and add at least some salad to this!

I will try and drink at least 3 small bottles of water at work (I struggle with this!).

My main habit I am trying to break is my evening wine! I like to have a couple of (small) glasses after work but this is really affecting my weight loss (or lack of). Tonight I am going to try my best to have lemonade, diet coke or a low cal hot chocolate instead.

Exercise - I don't enjoy exercise so don't do any formal kind of exercise. I will try and do more walking at work though!

Fingers crossed, I can come back tomorrow and confirm that I have stuck to this (more or less) and that I have managed day one of breaking my habit!

Thank you all for reading - Again, I realise this is rather self-serving so please let me know if this is totally inappropriate!

Your menu seems a little carb heavy, cereal for breakfast, crackers for lunch, a cereal bar and then pizza.

Hope you don't see this as criticism but as helpful advice. I've lost 6.7 stone doing SW and am maintaining a healthy weight. My mother does WW and she is vary of her carb intake as well. I think its more than fine to have them in a couple of meals but maybe not have them for every meal / snack. I know I am more successful when I eat more veg than carb heavy meals. Still have them but just cut back a little.

Could you even try a spirit and low calorie mixer instead of wine as a change and then you won't feel that you are missing out so much !
  • I agree re the lack of protein, it does make a huge difference to feeling full. Would you think of adding in eggs for breakfast? Cottage cheese is a good protein source, you could possibly add some tuna to bulk it up a bit. It does work for me in any case.

I gave up the booze a while back til I drop the stone + that I've regained :) I've found ginger tea to be a very nice substitute especially at this time of year. The twinings one is especially nice.

Are you exercising by the way? That also helps if you can face it :)

But good for you, a stone is nothing and with a bit of focus you'll be feeling a lot more comfortable by Easter.

Well I managed (almost) to stick to my plan - all except for the wine! Although there was a small celebration, I didn't have to join in!

Thank you all for the tips - I hadn't realised how carb-heavy my diet was but I can see now that it really is! I will need to take a look at this!

    Today's plan

    Breakfast
Special K with a banana and skimmed milk

    Lunch
2 x warburtons thins with laughing cow light and marmite
    Fruit salad

    Snack
    Apple and satsuma

    Dinner
Low calorie meal of ham and mushroom tagliatelli

Lots of water and black tea/coffee

Although I did fail yesterday, I feel more in control so hopefully things are starting to click!
  • I too started yesterday AGAIN! Did quite well till evening when 2 multilevel crunchers jumped into my mouth!!!! Sounds bad but it was beta than some evenings

If you just keep your eye on it and become more conscious of what your eating it becomes easier. It is hard. I went off the rails at the weekend and trying to pull it back now. You do need to have a life too, I don't believe in cutting things out completely I think that just makes you crave them even more. Theres no reason why you can't still enjoy wine, just less of it!

Sometimes I have cottage cheese with turkey pieces or a shop bought salad with ham or something for lunch. I too love it and find it a good source of protein and great for filling you up.

Do you like yoghurt? I often have some plain fat free yoghurt and fresh fruit for pudding. Adds protein to your diet to help you feel fuller as previous posters have said :D
