Scottish widows mortgage

Hi,
I've been searching through posts to see if this info is elsewhere but can only find posts which mention applying to scottish widows for a professional mortgage but not much about the process.
I was just wondering if anyone has much experience of SW application process as I'm not sure where I'm up to.
I applied at the start of this month, the credit check shows on my experian from the 4th (says First Time Mortgage", they rang earlier this week asking a couple of things about my rent, then I had a call on Friday asking for the money for the valuation,
I was just wondering is this a good sign? Or do they take that from all applicants? I don't want to get my hopes up without cause.
If they've already done a credit search and still asked, does this mean they're happy with this side of things? I'm just a tony bit worried as I have 1 late payment (shows as 1 on experian) from 7 months ago when I stupidly forgot to transfer bill money from my main account whilst on holiday (so silly of me!).
Thanks
Beth
