Probably a silly question....

OH came in with a present for me last week, a recycling pedal bin in 3 compartments.
Ive now started to recycle with a vengence, but I have a question!

My council states that blue bags are to be filled with Newspapers and Magazines, but I have so much more paper! Can I put in the card packing from frozen foods? What about shredded mail? And if not, what do I do with it??

What about plastic? Packaging from meat, cling film etc is not part of a kerbside collection. What do I do with it????

We are in the process of selling our home at the moment so Im a bit disappointed that I cant buy a compost bin :( I think Ive been bitten by the bug!

every council varies so you really need to query it with them as to what you can recycle where I'm afraid. Supermarkets usually have some recycling so if your kerbside collection won't take cardboard you can probably take it there but plastics are often only at the tip if available at all... it really does vary from area to area. Shredded paper usually isn't any good as it makes sorting really difficult - although when you get a compost bin you can put some of the shredded paper in there.

Our local council has a website you can check on about what is recyclable, thye keep increasing the facilities which is good, maybe there is one for your local council?

Funnily enough, I checked this out with my local council - they're fine about shredded paper going in the paper recycling sack, and the cardboard covers from frozen meals going in with the cardboard recycling box.
Having said that, I met someone on freecycle advertising for shredded paper for her rabbit hutch - I now keep her supplied each time I shred waste paper!
