My parents are determined that as they have paid tax and national insurance all their lives then the cost of care should be met by the government/local authority

The govt/LA will pay not a penny. It'll be taxpayers who'll have to subsidise your parents because of this evasion scheme.

Arguably it's the successive governments, particularly socialist and economically illiterate governments run by the Labour party that mean people need to loose everything they've worked for just to fund a meager existence until they die.

25 years of mortgage payments just to get the house taken to fund a greedy care home owner who charges sky high prices doesn't sound like a good goal to work towards to me.

If most home owners knew this would happen it would be such an issue come polling day that the government would need to do something about it. It's just a shame people only find out about it when it's too late.

What's the point in working hard to pay of a mortgage for 25 years if it's just taken from you when your health fails????
