They don't help with clarity at all. I have a dead ear in my right and severe loss in my left and although the sound is louder it isn't clear for me. I really struggle with background noise, tv, different people speaking. With the tv it isn't clear it is a blur of noise that's why I use subtitliesl

Dosh have you tried any loop system phones where you place hearing aid on t setting and then the phone call is placed direct in your ear. If that doesn't work well for you then ask work to communicate via email or skype by typing. A longer process but it will help avoid missing out key information. the hearing loss comes under the equality act and they should help you to work to the level as a normal hearing person.

This email and many others is really helpful for many reasons one of which is confirming to me that the issues I have with clarity is experienced by others too! Even Audiology are adament that the hearing aids I am given are the best for my disability but they still don't provide clarity. As you say I have the amplification and that is not the issue with my disability! Thanks

Thanks to everyone for your advice and guidance and sorry for the numerous responses but didn't want to appear rude when people are willing to help.

I already regularly go to audiology mainly to service my hearing aids and at times have had to change the hearing aids as they don't appear to be helping me.

I perhaps need to speak to the audiology department to see how I can be referred to an ENT specialist who can do progrnosis. Haven't been totally happy with the consultant type feedback in the past. Been to two different consultants and neither could advise whether I had had the problem since birth or whether it came on in later life and also were not very forthcoming about what to expect in the future. Perhaps third time lucky!

If hearing aids don't help you, maybe you could ask to be considered for a cochlear implant. I have one and it works well enough to use the phone- something I couldn't do for several years when I had hearing aids.

Cochlear implants are the last resort as part of the surgery it removes some nerves. Once you have a ci you can't go back to normal aids. I've been told by fellow users that it only gives perception of sound and doesn't give what you would hear with hearing aid anyways.

Have you tried a bone anchored hearing aid dosh I'm unaware if you would meet the criteria for it plus you can trial one on a head band and it can be reversed as a baha sends sounds through vibrating the skull through conduction

Overpayment paused to pay off cc

    Starting balance £66,565.45

    Current balance £58,108

    Cc around 8k.

  • Well this so-called "perception of sounds" sounds normal enough for me and I can remember normal hearing. It's not perfect, but it is much better than hearing aids were for me. Like for example, the phone, music, the radio, and having conversations in the dark.

I must admit to not being familiar with bone anchored hearing aids nore cochlear implants. Probably because to date I haven't needed to know much about them. I do plan to further my understanding though. Thanks for your help.

Sounds very promising! Great that you have found help and relief with the CI.
