Another vote for Tesco (if you're in a good O2 area). You get more than the vodafone deal and you can cap the contract. You can add a buffer to this (bit of a faff if you want to change the buffer, or switch contracts within the 24 months).
I'm on Three's 3-2-1 PAYG as I hardly use the phone. Can't complain about the price as its much cheaper than contracts (apart from the £1 a month contracts some very MSE posters on this thread managed to get).:o
