Requirements when applying for a Mortgage

Hi All,

New to the forum however have viewed it for years.

Thought I'd start a thread on what is required when applying for a mortgage as I don't think I've ever seen a particular thread for this and more specifically info regarding bank statement requirements.

Lenders will tell you what you need on their website such as proof of identity, P60, proof of income, bank statements.

I'm looking to get advice and info on specific companies in this thread, for instance I have just went through the mortgage process with Halifax and they required 6 months bank statements. I'm looking to get info together for new applicants for each lender i.e.

Halifax - 6 months bank statements and also had to show how my savings were acquired over the full period.

Anyone else contribute with dealings of other companies and specifically how many months bank statements they had to provide?

Thanks in advance

It depends on the lender and the applicant.

I can only think of one instance where Halifax requests six months bank statements as standard.

In most cases none are requested.

As amn said, this mostly depends on applicant circumstances, loan to value and credit score.

This is a thread I suspect will run and run.

    I'll start.

  • Do most banks require statements then? Or not

I don't get why halifax wouldn't want to see statements

When do lenders not require statements?
  • I think this a good thread by the way. Even if most don't!

Newbie doesn't sound like they're hiding anything- they're saying why wouldn't Halifax want to see bank statements. They're agreeing with the principle of Lenders seeing them I think. That's the way I interpet their post anyway.

Is it the same for re-mortgage? i.e 6 months bank statements?

Why wouldn't it be the same?

A remortgage is a brand new mortgage with a different lender. They'll want to know you can afford the repayments and check they're lending responsibly.
    Slummy mummy!
