Just quickly dropping in while dude is having breakfast. With regards to family, this is also where some of my debt cane from! They would ask to borrow and I couldn't say ni and leave them without.
This was until I realised said person had no food in the cupboards and asking me for money to get food shop, and then literally in the next breath told me about the new tattoo they got the day before. This was while i was on maternity pay and hubby was being messed about with his pay!
Needless to say the lending of money stopped right there and I never saw a penny back. Didn't stop me worrying about said family member having no food though!
Just be strong and stick to your guns, you have to look out for number 1 and everybody else needs to learn you're not a bank!January 2015 - LBM

Precisely that HarrysMummy! Still it does feel bad and I'm worried, but we do need to put ourselves first.. Until the debt is paid at the very least. As if things go bad for us there will be no one to help us! Will stay strong Xx0 -
.......we are fixing up kids rooms, so extra spends needed and I'm not sure of the exact cost at the moment:
Shelves
Canvas
Lamp
Picture frame
We also need some light bulbs (funny how I never noticed how expensive light bulbs were before LBM)
And we will need to buy a new mattress, already bought two mattresses last month, but had to get a refund as one was faulty, still waiting for the money to go in my account. Problem is the mattress we bought was in the sale (probably why was faulty! Although the other is perfect).. So even with the refund we will need to pay another 100ish on top.
I will estimate all of the above plus mattress to 300..........
Been doing some research on the above and I'm pleased that I have found everything that I liked for £100, plus some extra bits that weren't on the list : wall stickers, lampshade to go with the lamp. Some of our requirements were a bit specific ie.. Kids want a certain theme/ colours and measurements quite specific due to space. I'm hoping the things I chose will be good quality and last for awhile
The mattress is still going to be at least £100 as I know exactly the one I'm getting once I receive the refund from the faulty one.
Should be able to do it all now for 200 and will have more left over at the end of the month
Can't wait to get them next week!!0 -
I'm feeling guilty about not being able to take the kids away this year, this is something we agreed on when we went on holiday last summer.
I don't mean a big holiday but just a break at a theme park.. My youngest seen adverts for one and asking when we can go... I said I'm not sure
I had a look and it's 260 to stay the night at the hotel and two days at the theme park. But then it's also petrol and spends there.. Drinks lunch x 2, dinner x2 days.. And the gift shop. Arghhhh
I don't want to be spending 3 years saying NO
It's like wishing away their their childhood and not creating memories for them.. When I came to my realisation about money and material things, I feel like I don't need anything material the only thing that was always going to be hard is holidays & memories... Obviously I will do lots of other things with them, park, picnics, farm etc.. But it doesn't seem the same! I also realise that we were "lucky" to take them away last year and other years. I've put lucky in brackets as we obviously couldn't afford it then hence they were on the credit cards!
The plan so far is to maybe take them to a more local theme park where we don't have to spend the night, but I will keep this one in my back pocket for now and if anything it will be at the end of the summer. But even this will cost 75 for tickets! Plus dinner out. Plus petrol ..

why do you have to go for so long? A day at a theme park would be plenty, and then you only have to pay for one lot of food (or you can prep a picnic) and no nights away. Or you could camp rather than stay on site? There are lots of ways of doing it cheaper than staying on site for a couple of days. You have done so brilliantly reducing your debt; being careful with money now will give you and your family an amazing future - surely worth a few compromises now, in the short term?
Hope you don't mind me butting in. What about using tesco vouchers to reduce the cost? They sometimes do clubcard deals for discount entry don't they? Lots of options to reduce the financial cost; it's all about the planningLBM 1st Feb 2015 £18182 to go

Thank you stepuptotheplate! Yeah I am thinking now to go for one day and to a more local theme park, but still not sure as that will be 75 just for tickets, lunch we can sort but will need dinner and petrol. But I will be keeping this firmly in my back pocket as a back up plan towards the end of the summer.. The plan so far been not to go at all.. So I'm struggling with the compromise Xx0 -
If it was me, I'd pay NOT to go to a theme park!! :rotfl: can't bear them
I'd rather go camping. Life would be very boring if we were all the same. I think it's all about the balance between paying off debts as soon as possible, but still having a life.. I think the balance shifts as well, so each possible compromise has to be judged on its own merits. So for me a trip to a theme park would be an easy no, whereas a trip to the mountains or seaside would be much harder to say no to.

Also it mean so much to hear that we doing well, for some reason it really doesn't feel like it! Feels like we could be doing so much more, like the extra money spent on kids rooms, but they needed new beds and to update their rooms a little to accommodate them growing
The reasoning behind it is, we still need to do the cosmetic maintenance of the house as don't want to do nothing for 3 years and then find the whole house needs redecorating at the same time! I'm living with the kitchen as it is for foreseeable future.. But the kids rooms wanted to update a little. And if I wasn't on this journey it all would have been stuck on credit and about twice as much. So hopefully this will fare better in the long term
