Statute Barred debt

Hi guys
I received a letter this morning from a debt collection agency in regards to a debt that is easily over 6 years old since last communication and even payment was longer.
Anyway the question I do wish to ask, the debt agency is an agency I'm currently paying another small debt off with, so do I have no option but to acknowledge the debt or is it still regarded as statute barred meaning they can't legally enforce any collection proceedings.
One more thing I have noticed, I don't know how big or small this detail is, the name on the current debt I'm paying off is Spelt 'MARTYN' the name on the debt letter received today is spelt 'MARTIN' does it also make much of a difference in chasing the debt

Hi,
Once statute barred, always statute barred, nothing can undo that fact.
Is it your debt, do you recognize the account ?
If it is yours, you simply respond with the SB letter, if its not yours, its not your problem.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Hi,
Thanks for your response, yeh I do recognise use the debt, but like I said the debt hasn't been acknowledged for well over 6 years.
It's been passed from a lot of debt companies so I think they are all trying their luck aren't they
I will track down a SB letter template, think I vaguely remember seeing some on this site, if not I will search google.0 -
Expect a falsified fraudulent payment to be invented when you send the SB letter.I do Contracts, all day every day.0

if they do then report them to the FCA straight away.0

Hi Mart
There is a statute barred template letter at the end of our Time Limits factsheet. This is our England and Wales version:
