O/S Daily Friday 13th February 2015

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

    Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Still dark, doesn’t look like we’ve had a frost.l Load in WM.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now up and getting ready for work. Will get DS2 up ready for school shortly.

Dinner last night was a cheeky takeaway as plans went a bit all over the place – hairdresser was booked weeks ago to cut and colour my hair and cut all the menfolks’ hair. Went to get an old towel out of the airing cupboard (used to be airing cupboard but no hot water tank anymore so just has the boiler in there now and I use it for storing all the bedding and towels etc) only to find wet towels and bedding, took everything out and found a leak which is dripping water from the bottom of the boiler. Rang our heating engineers who arranged for someone to come out to look to see what the problem is, so hairdresser arrives and is part way through colouring my hair, nice trendy plastic cap on my head, I was looking a right classy bird – not! Plumber arrives and he finds problem, and it’s not going to be cheap - £300 ish – but it’s got to be sorted – so he’ll be coming back either Tues or Weds next week to take the boiler away as he needs to take one part out and put another in but he will do it all on the same day. There was talk of having to switch the water off etc, but luckily that’s not necessary.

Yesterday was reasonably productive, got a good load of the washing, drying and ironing done, will continue with this today as want to be as up to date as possible, as we now have some busy weekends so won’t be able to utilise those days to catch up with anything I’ve not managed to get done. Did get some housework done but will try and continue with this. I have the normal chores to do today – will be heading to town to the bank shortly, then on to do the food shopping, once I’m home will continue with the jobs at home.

    Have great Fridays’ everyone x

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning everyone.

Still dark. Still under the duvet.

So sorry to hear about your beloved Meg Dumpling. It's so sad. Your hubby has no need to blame himself and you are just getting yourself together. Please don't be derailed by this, remember her with joy.

Brought a big piece of work home to get on with in peace and quiet though the joiner is coming at some point to fit a new lock on the front door. It'll mean no more mortise keyhole allowing the freezing wind through.

The local Chinese takeaway owners have gone for a month long holiday back to HK which means no delicious treat tonight. So, I have no idea what we're having.

Hope everyone is doing fine. Especially Dumpling.
  • Morning all. Not a good forecast for today, rain, wind and thick cloud. Yuk.

Just catching up on last night's posts and read your tragic news dumpling. I am just so, so sorry. We have had three dogs over the years and know what they come to mean to the family. It's devastating to lose one at all but under such tragic circumstances is really heartbreaking. My thoughts are with you and big hugs to you all.

I am creeping around as the 3 DGDs are still asleep. As no school today we let them stay up a bit later in the hope they may sleep a bit longer! We have a museum visit planned for this morning. Quite a few hands-on stuff for kids and they love going there. Followed by lunch out. 'Spoons won the vote as it's Fish Friday and they all love 'Spoons' fish!

So a busy day in store for us and by the time DD collects them around 4.30 we shall be shattered!

Have a good day all. x

    Morning All

Dumpling, I am so sorry. You made little Meg very happy in your home, big hugs to all of you. Please stay with us and talk about things.

A bit damp out this morning but I don't think it's actually raining, washing will wait till tonight when DD is home from work, house not looking too bad (apart from the plaster falling off the stairs, etc, etc).

Sausage and mash last night for DD, I had sausage and brocolli, not keen on mash, there's enough for her to take for her lunch today, I'll have lentil soup. Spag bol for tea, need to wait for cousin and husband to arrive, they drive so slowly it could be midnight!

DW doing its thing, need to go for a shower and another busy day at work ahead. Take care. XX

    Morning all,

Dumpling I am so very sorry to hear about dear Meg its so very sad. Its heart breaking when our beloved pets leave us, keep posting thought hun we are all here for you xx

Phoned mum last night to tell her we would be there for around 5 ish (this was the weekend we arranged to pick her up weeks ago) but she is having such a good time that she wants to stay for another few weeks, it makes sense as she is living in the granny flat in my sisters garden atm while her house is being done up, so she must be more comfortable there. So we are not going now but I still have the afternoon off :T so I shall meet dd later on and have some lunch.

Weekend free now which I need as I am shattered so not sure what we are up to.

Dinner tonight is still unsettled but might contain mince !

    Have good days all xx

  • Good Morning everyone, grey and cloudy here with a breeze this morning and I'm off to town for some food shopping as my cupboards and fridge seem to belong to Old Mother Hubbard, not having shopped for the past two weeks I've been away. Treated myself to a new modern slow cooker cookery book when I was away and the recipes sound lovely so off to source lots of peppers, red onions, paneer cheese and fresh herbs and spices for the coming week.

DUMPLING I'm so sad for you at the loss of your darling Meg, we love our animal friends as much as we do our families and my heart is heavy for the sadness you all must be feeling today. You all need time to grieve for her and come to acceptance of what has happened so it's OK to feel what you are right now. We are here for you lovey, if you're feeling that deep sadness and feeling really down talk to us? we will always listen, always help if we can and know also that at times like these we are collectively with you and yours, wrapping you in our love and caring and with a hand at your back to keep you going in such dark days, this sadness will lighten with time and you will feel better but we DO understand how you feel today, Chin up petal, Lyn xxx.

    Good morning all,

Just catching up with yesterdays thread and saw your sad news Dumpling, I am so sorry, what an awful thing to happen.Sending you lots of hugs and my best wishes xx

I have no real plans today, probably some more Kondoing, especially paperwork, but have lots of shredding to do now.I might move the shredder into the house, its in the conservatory and its freezing in there.DS1 & I moved a sideboard out of there too,as the cold was making the joints split apart .
We didn't think when we rented this house in the summer that we'd still be in it after Xmas and didn't realise how cold it was.Because DH has been busy at work he hasn't been able to spend as much time renovating our cottage as he would have liked so we're very behind schedule but he has spent last week and this on it so some progress has been made.Once the bathroom is in I'd sooner go and camp upstairs and make do with the Remoska/microwave/slow cooker. At least I'd be able to have a decent shower :D.The rent on this place is too high considering a lot of things need attention/replacing but you dont know that until you've lived in a place really. On the surface it looked ok when we viewed in the summer :(

Anyway DGD is here overnight tonight so I'd better sort out whats for tea.Yesterday I got a small piece of ys oxtail and made some soup so thats for my lunch, also got some lo turkey to do the same with- even DS1 has been eating soup and he's not normally a fan ;) Hope you all have the best day you can x

    Dumpling

So sorry about your pet and sending virtual hug. :grouphug:

Rather grey and damp damp day here so not planning on going out till DD comes for dinner and then driving me to Allidees so I can introduce her to its mysteries ;)

Planning a lasagne and have defrosted some YS lamb mince.

The dining chair seat I recovered for DD has worked out so well she posted a picture of it online and her sisters are very impressed so I now have the other five chair seats to do today and will cover the foam for window seats next week.

Went shopping yesterday to Leeds and managed to snaffle a Valentine's Day meal with wine and chocolates for £20 as a treat for DH tomorrow. Posh Cocquilles St. Jacques as a starter with green veg and crab topped trout as a main and lemon souffle sponges for dessert. Best of all it is all food that DH can manage to eat and would enjoy anyway :j

Have been looking for a posh dressy jacket that would go with most things for upcoming blessing in April and DD's graduation in summer and found a lovely one in the sale at less than a third of the price. As it is an oystery creamy shade it should be versatile enough to make me feel good and still more than earn its keep.

    Hugs to all.

Thank you everyone for your kind wishes and condolences for Meg. We only had her for a short while but she wriggled her way into our hearts so it was a big shock. Hubby has gone to work but I don't know how productive he will be as neither of us slept last night. The girls are home and seem ok now.

I must phone the insurance people as well as the vets to let them know. We have decided to donate her food and bits and pieces to a local wildlife charity as we think they can make the best use of them.

Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx
