Nurse uniform tax relief

Hi all, hope this is in the right place...

I completed the HMRC forms to reclaim my allowance for washing uniform, NMC fee and Professional subs. I didn't hear anything so rang to check they got my application and the girl HMRC a changed my tax code.

Will I get a cheque from HMRC a or will my employer pay it back through my wages?

I'm surprised how easy it was to do, can't believe companies are doing it for people, if you're thinking about it just do it, only took half an hour!

Good on you, nurses deserve much more. :)
  • Yes, it is a disgrace when some employers and unions recommend these companies to their employees - often because they get paid.

My wife is a Nurse and did this a couple of Years ago.I think for some strange reason she ended up owing them a "nominal amount" which they said they would waive. :o

For future reference there is a CUTTING TAX board, and in fact the subject has its own detailed dedicated thread . See Here

    Not just Nurses either.

" If you wear a uniform at work, and have to wash, repair or replace it yourself, you may be able to reclaim £100s of tax from the past four years.

This applies whether it's just a branded T-shirt or you're a fully uniformed pilot, police officer or nurse. Don't pay a claims firm, you can do it simply yourself for FREE."

I think the NHS should have onsite laundries for staff uniform. Why should staff have to risk bringing home soiled uniform which may or may not contain infective agents, into their homes?
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
