Let's not forget they raised prices by a staggering 18.6% in October 2011.

Hard to justify the increase when buses are never on time.

Interesting that the BBC article cites Power NI stating that the reduced cost of gas was the reason they were able to give this discount.

So why haven't the gas providers reduced their prices yet then? Power stations need to buy in advance to ensure stable supplies, so I get why the Power NI discount won't apply until April.

Gas suppliers aren't subject to quite so tight a schedule, so either

    1. Their buyers dropped the ball and tied them into a non-negotiable contract which will cost consumers in the long run. Or,

    2. They could discount now, but are instead trying to squeeze as much profit as they can from this situation.

    Either way, heads should roll.

The argument with that is the same as with the fuel, if there is a global crisis in the middle east - fuel goes up immediately. Now that there is a downturn in fuel demand, we have to wait for appropriate junctures.

Thats because buses and trains here don't run on diesel (which has significantly reduced in price) but they run on quango juice instead, which we know is very expensive here in NI :o

We pay the head of Translink significantly more than a First Minister gets (not that he deserves a huge salary either).
I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:

Quango juice is a strange one, it defies conventional market logic.

It's very very common in Northern Ireland but still commands a high price as if it was rarer than hen's teeth.

Have all other NI providers reduced their rates accordingly? ie Airtricity, Budget?
