Thanks for the useful advice. It will be a lot better when I start work again.

My Woolwich account has savings "pots" so I'd like to do what you suggest with those. That way the money is really all in one place earning a decent rate for the whole lot.

I still have lots to learn and I really do need to curb my spending - but I've started already.

Two weeks ago got new part time job
      Bought The Money Diet
      On Friday registered with MSE
      Done a budget
Saved between £23 and £58 on my first week's shopping
Switched from separate gas & electricity suppliers to one, saving £100+

Not bad for a newbie ...

Of course, in between 1 and 2 I did buy some new clothes for work. But at least I'm learning.

Hi Diane! Well done! Super progress. Give yourself a big pat on the back ;-)

Just wanna add my tuppence's worth about work clothes. I am fortunate in that I have a street market near where I live (Strutton Ground, Central London. Nearest Tube station: St James's Park. Opens Mon-Fri between 8.30am and 4pm) where a couple of stalls specialise in inexpensive work clothes - cancelled orders, end of lines, bankrupt stock etc. 2 weeks ago I bought a black pinstriped trouser suit for £30. Yep!! You heard that right, only £30 for the whole set, brand new. It fits pretty well and the pair of trousers is machine washable and needs minimal ironing when dried. I am really chuffed with this purchase! Otherwise, would you believe, New Look and Primark have a few gems too at knockdown prices if you look for them.

Perhaps this just shows that shops like Next, M&S, Austin Reed etc probably charge too much ...... don't get me wrong, Diane, I don't mean to presume that you bought your new work clothes from these places!

BTW, I like wearing trouser suits cos' they hide my less than perfect legs and save on tights (that need replacing pretty often)! hee hee.
