Has anyone any thoughts on this? My husband thinks that supermarket diesel doesn't get him as many miles to the gallon as if he went to a "proper" filling station like Maxol? What do all you moneysavers think??

This one thinks it's nonsense. Weights and Measures?“What means that trump?” Timon of Athens by William Shakespeare0

I used to track my petrol mpg and I definately got more from BP than the supermarkets.
I will only use BP now.
Supermarkets use detergents etc in their fuel where as BP etc put in additives which are good for the engine. The app to track mpg can't lie so I know that supermarket fuel is not as good.0 -
I have tracked my MPG across 55,000 miles for diesel. Shell and BP give more. But not enough to offset the extra cost.
The engine sounds much smoother and gives more torque - and is therefore much more responsive too.
It is better for your car, but not mmediately for your wallet.0 -
I find that it doesn't make a difference where I buy my fuel from. So it my be car specific rather than one way or the other for every car.0

Definitely. I made mistake of filling up at supermarket last week after years of avoiding due to bad fuel experience before.
Never again.0 -

But I will add, I think it depends on the car. Some cars really hate supermarket fuel. Others are not bothered.0

Never again.
Every brand of fuel has had some issue or other at some point.0 -
I do not know of any supermarket chain that has it's own refinery.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0

I once attended a "safer driving" course run by my company in England. During this, the external consultant mentioned that supermarkets added what he called "cake" to their fuel and for that reason it should be avoided. I've never used it since and have often wondered if it was really that big a deal, so it's interesting to see that others have heard this too.0
