If you have a car most areas are crying out for carers. I don't think experience is needed, but am not sure.

If you have transport try changing your search for work to 'housekeeper'.
Also use it to advertise locally.
Given your age and experience I am sure someone will quickly bite your hand off

  • Hi, It might be worth exploring whether you and your son are entitled to any help with rent/housing benefit or council tax benefit now based on your household income. Anybody know any more about this?
    Best wishes

That's a very inspiring tale FVD.

Sadlady- how are you today? Are you still applying for jobs now or do you feel so down you have stopped?

I am still applying but my mood is getting very low jobs are very hard to find in my area, they all seem to want experience worried about the council tax,it is very unfair that they add money to people already in debt
  • Go and see citizens advice re the council tax issue.
  • FatVonD I only have public transport but its good to know supermarkets will employ an older person,I have applied for them but not heard anything, how was the group interview? things have changed so much in recent years what with pre selection interviews and group ones, when i went to the interview for my last job she asked if I could use a buffing machine and when I said yes she said ok start Monday.I can chat to people from all walks of life, chat to strangers at the bus stop but in situations like interviews and group activites I panic speaking in front of a group of people would be my worst nightmare

Sadlady - I couldn't agree more. What help is it to fine those who cannot pay? I'm so sorry to read how stressful all this is.
Have you tried the CAB route as the OP suggests?
I know it's hard re jobs. But throw enough mud and all that. Keep your chin up.

If cleaning is your forte then I agree with others that self-employed might be the way to go. Could you put up a sign advertising your services in local shops perhaps, or any shops within an easy bus ride?

Also, if you are worse off financially having your son living at home then personally, I honestly don't think it would be unreasonable to ask him for a little bit more.

complain to council saying youll be taking them to the local government ombudsman about the unfair increasing of your bill if they dont take it back off the baliffs and cancel their charges.

would this do any good ? have others done it?
