Question about DMP

I was at my mums house having dinner with my sister and mum had gone to work, as usual, if the phone goes either of us will answer it. My mum has been getting ALOT of international calls comming in and today was another. The person on the other end asked if she could speak to Linda, She only gave me a first name and I asked her what she wanted (I know that sounds rude, but just like my mum, I'm at the end of my teather with them). She then told me she was calling from X company, I couldn't make out what she said, asked her to repeat it and again I couldnt make out what she was saying, it fealt like she was obscuring the name. Anyway, again I asked her what she wanted and she said she wasn't on the phone to sell me anything, but she knows there is debt on the creditcards (My mother does have credit card debt, but nothing she can't afford to pay on a 28k wage). She then went on to tell me she was calling to tell me about DMP and would like to explain more about it.

I then told the caller that one, they were not speaking to the home owner and should not be discussing this kind of thing without the person they are calling confirming who they are. And two, they should stop calling as they have been asked to do so already and in future only to contact the home owner by mail. I stated again they they should take note on whatever file they have that the home owner should only be contacted by post and not by telephone as it both unsuitable and inconvenient.

Anyone have an idea who this call could have been from? Who calls you at 6pm to try to get you onto a DMP?

Thanks folks.

my mum started getting calls from some foreign bird at stupid o'clock in the morning and night wanting to talk about money - my mum is nothing like me in that she won't owe anyone anything, no credit cards etc!
we ended up threatening her with the Protention from Harassment Act. No more calls.
can you get BT to put a block on the calls? or why not join the telephone preference service.

My mum has joined TPS and also has a barring system to block calls, but they seem to change number so often. It's really a pain. I'll remember the protention from harassment act thing for future tho, thanks.
