Hope you are OK katiehound - did you have a fire at home? My DGD is a firefighter in London so I am often told about some of her incidents. We asked to have a check from our local station & they supplied us with a special alarm to have under the pillow that vibrates, as my DH is very deaf. They also replaced our existing alarm & Carbon Monoxide alarm.
I don't think there is enough publicity about this free service.0 -
Thanks Redagila- no I didn't have a fire.
Very long story-(I've skipped most of it!) I had 'transient global amnesia' two weeks ago and because they thought it might be a mini stroke I ended up going by ambulance with the 'blues & twos!' That bit I remember- not a lot else.
After my 3 days/ 2 nights in hospital I was discharged but the emergency services who dealt with the initial call from a friend in London lost track of me (probably because I went to 2 different hospitals.) Anyway friend filled in the details for them and they contacted me because I had had a ride in an ambulance and said they would like to check my safety.
Seems I get no black marks!- OOps- I do have junk
- but don't smoke,
- don't leave electrical goods on at night
- don't leave electrical goods on whilst I am out (have to nurse the elderly washing machine)
- no open fires
- clear access to easiest escape route- front door
- keep downstairs doors closed at night
- and I keep the key to front door easily accessible too
So that's my story.
I don't know how you apply because they contacted me.Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

Katiehound thanks for sharing your story & good to know that the Fire Brigade gave you top marks.
I believe anyone can ask their local fire brigade to come & do a check of their living accommodation - it obviously makes sense if it helps prevent fires & good when you get fitted with up to date alarms without any charge.0 -
