Hi
Im really struggling with trying to open a new thread..
All i'm after is a bit of information for a first time renter.
My boyfriend and i are looking to rent a 2 bedroom property for around £500 a month.. We're total newbies so no idea what we need to budget for on top of this or how much it will be, any help?
THANKS

You posted this on the debt free wannabe section, but are debts an issue here?Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

You need to think about gas/electricity/phone line rental/internet and contents insurance/tv licence for a start. Then budget for all the household items you might not have, towels, bedding etc. Have a search on the forum for those terms and see what comes up - there will be plenty! And then you'll have your day to day things like groceries and cleaning products and toiletries.'Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.'

Hello!
First, you need to save a deposit - usually one or one and a half month's rent so £500 to £750.
Secondly, you need to pay one month's rent in advance too.
Thirdly, there are often agents' fees (for credit checks, paperwork etc) of around £200 each.
So before you move in, that's around £1400 to £1650 you need to budget for.
Once you are in there is council tax, gas and electricity, phone, broadband, water rates, contents insurance.
Hope this helps.
