    Hi
What sort of steak do you have in the freezer & how big is it ?

Beef Wellington is usually made with fillet steak.

The steak should be quite thick, I don't think a 1/2" thick piece would work at all. And, as sooty&sweep says, it needs to be good quality.

If you Google 'Beef Wellington' you'll get lots of recipes.

Check out if it's worth buying the other ingredients to make this particular dish.

I'd agree. It's a bit of a special occasion dish so hardly worth splashing out to end up with half a portion!

I'd recommend this Hairy Bikers recipe:

You can add loads of mushrooms as well as the onions and the gravy is yummy. Then serve with chips and/or other veg of your choice. I buy cheap steaks for this especially.

Alternatively buy one portion of something else that one of you particularly likes or another single steak.
  • If the steak isn't quite big enough for a beef wellington you could make a beef stroganoff - the steak would be cut into strips so it would go much further.
Lots of recipies online - essentially onions, mushrooms, sour cream and paprika if I remember rightly. Lovely served with rice and some green veg.

    not just me then:rotfl:

OP, I would make a steak and mushroom pie if you have steak and mushrooms and pastry. A wellington won't really work with a steak. Too flat and thin.

  • OP, you really need to say what kind of steak it is, and what size.

I too, had visions of this! ?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.chrisbeetles.com%2Fsites%2Fdefault%2Ffiles%2Fstock-images%2FNEW-MESTAKE-THROUGH-HEART-1-C23263.jpg&f=1
