Where do I claim I live for mortgage

Sounds daft I know. But hear me out.

We sold our house and moved into the inlaws 2 weeks ago. We were meant to move into new house last week but that fell through.

I redirected all post to inlaws and as yet have not changed anything for myself or wife regarding addresses. Not a sausage.

So we have now got to apply for another mortgage for a new house. So do I just complete it like I live at the old house? As all post will be redirected etc and all banks registered to that address. I imagine the credit agencies won't know about the move yet either.

So where do I say I live?

Ask the lender or the broker how they would prefer to document this.

Or failing that - just be accurate.

You are living at the inlaws on a temporary basis. Nothing unusual in this.
  • We moved into my in-laws after leaving rented accommodation and have applied using our current address which is the in-laws. Mortgage broker asked for 3 years of address history anyway.

    Thanks guys

The only reason I asked is that I guess we will still be on the electoral role at my old address, and not the in laws.

But as always, honesty is the best policy.
  • Can't offer any advice but we may find ourselves in a similar position and I wondered what would happen. Our broker's pretty good so I'm going to ask him. Watching here with interest though.

If you're a full electoral roll history prior to moving then shouldn't pose any issues.
