As I've mentioned previously on this thread, it does depend what you use your batteries in when it comes to discharge with regards to rechargeable batteries, how long the battery will last.

With clocks, remote controls and other low energy devices, the batteries should last a lot longer than with cameras and radios and other high energy devices, cameras and radios and the likes appear to have a higher discharge life on the battery.

With some devices you might also find they don't last as long as anticipated. The batteries in my thermostat have to be charged at least every two weeks as it doesn’t appear to recognise the battery after that period. I was using Vapextech’s for a while as well.

You may want to bear this in mind when deciding what brands to purchase.

And as I mainly use batteries for bike lights and a thermostat, all of which are predominantly used in the winter anyway, I've decided there's not much point in spending a great deal on batteries.

Incidentally, I spotted the following just now:

ATC Dr. Charge NiMH AAA and AA Battery Charger £4.99 available for Click & Collect at Maplin

    • Charges 1-4 pieces of AAA and AA batteries
    • Independent charge channel for each battery
    • 'Negative delta V' detection switches off charger immediately the batteries are fully charged

They started selling my email address about one year after my last order. Either don't do business with them or do what I did and use an email address that you can turn off when the spam starts.

I agree with the two previous posters who have suggested Eneloop rechargeable batteries. It's true that they don't self-discharge at anything close to the rate of traditional rechargeables. That makes them suitable for low drain things like remote controls as well as high drain, though it's a bit of a waste to use them in a remote control because it'll be years before they need to be recharged. Handy if you want to standardise on just one battery type, though.

Wilkinsons now have 4 packs of AA & AAA alkaline(not cheap zinc carbon) own brand batteries for 50p a pack.

The link below is the 8 pack at 95p(the 4 packs are the same colour batteries):
