Some bits for the Kitchen

Options
Am moving so have decided to upgrade my near student days sauce pans.

Is there much difference towards the higher end in terms of quality or is it just about which ones you like the look of best. I'm thinking about brands like Mauviel, Le Creuset and All-Clad.

Rather like the look of a Fissler Vitavit premium pressure cooker but am a bit concerned about the welded/bonded? base. Is it worth considering a Kuhn Rikon instead?
Cheers

I know many people on here will advise to get the 'best' you can afford. But, I bought a very inexpensive milk pan when I got married and 37 years later it is still going strong. its outlasted at least four sets of mid-range pans.
I usually go by the weight of the pan plus a good look at how the handle is fixed to the pan - is it screwed or riveted and is there any 'wobble'? wobble and its rejected!

I would definitely go with the best you can afford. An expensive pan should be hard-wearing, resist burning and be a pan for life.

Prestige pressure cookers are fine btw.

The other day I was browsing Argos, as you do!

Special offer of Russell Hobbs non stick pots and pan 5 piece set, around £30.

    I'm getting a set tomorrow!

Just google "cookware". Reviews are generally quite good too.

I think Le Creuset, while great, are far too heavy for me.

If you want Kuhn Rikon which are really expensive then they might be slightly cheaper in Homesense.

Buy the best you can afford and if the handles wobble don't bother with them. Le Creuset are nice but very heavy.

I'm still using my Le Creuset which I bought back in 1976. I managed to get my daughter some Tesco Finest stainless steel with copper bottoms back in 2003 with half price discount and then vouchers for free when she went to Uni she was there fore 6 years and is still using them I got her 3 pans all the same size.
Why pay full price when you may get it YS ;)

I remember trying to pick up a Le Creuset pot and nearly dropping it as it was so heavy.:D

I want to get a good baking tray as I seem to go through the cheaper ones very quickly.

MIL used to say `buy cheap buy twice`. She was so right

I have le creuset tri ply pans and they wear and wear, they keep the heat in and can be kept on a very low heat. I use these pans on an induction hob. I also have a couple of the fancy le creuset casseroles but I would start with the stainless steel pans and add later. The pans always look shiny and spotless and clean very easily

I have had pressure cookers for 44 years and used them for 56 years. The ones I bought during the past 8 years are kuhn rikon and they are far and away the best. Silent and safe in action and will last the rest of my days and then some. All my casseroles and pans are used on an induction hob. I have two kuhn rikon pressure cookers, one shallow and one family sized, I think 2.5 litre and 5 litre. The 5 litre is the most useful size for future proofing

So exciting to start from the beginning op
  • I got a set of AMC pans in the 70's. They weren't cheap but they have been worth the money. I am still using them and they still look as good as new. The selling point for me was the fact that, once the pan and contents are hot, you then turn the heat down to the lowest setting and they carry on cooking for as long as you want.

just wanted to add that the only non stick pans I have are a le creuset triply milk pan and a frying pan. The other pans do not need non stick. The above link is just for the review and some prices.
