I need to cancel a CPA, i will go into the bank tomorrow, however if I apply for a new debit card as mine conked out yesterday i presume this will also stop the payments going through?

Replacing the old card will not cancel CPAs.loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.0

It will if the card has a different number, as the long 16 digit number across the middle is crucial to the transaction going through or not.
If you tell your Bank your card has been lost/stolen, they will replace it with a new card and different number.
The creditor will still try to debt your account, using the old card details, but the transaction will just keep coming back as rejected.
Your best bet is to do both, cancel CPA, and also get new card, with new number.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. No it wont.
That is wrong. The payment authorities can continue despite a card being cancelled.
Independent research by Consumer Focus confirm's that as a common problem.

<snip>
Cancelled CPA payments are being taken on a cancelled card and debited on a new card linked to the same bank account, without the customer’s permission.
If you got away with it, as you have previously said, you were lucky.Still rolling rolling rolling......<

Few years ago i had problems with PDL`s and i wanted to stop the payments coming out, it was in a time when people were less aware of CPA`s, and how to cancel them.
I did exactly what i said above, and it worked for me, they could not complete the transaction, as the numbers did not match.
I have also read accounts where this did not work, so i do agree that it may be a bit hit and miss, it may depend on the banks own policy, i dont know, but all i`m saying is it worked in my case.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. More importantly what type of bank account do you hold?
Not in direct experience, be aware that some will treat it as an unplanned overdraft if you don't hold a basic account so it 'guarantee's' you paying even if you have zilch in the account, if that happens speak to the bank as they may waive any charge from them and I hate to say but least it is then paid., if you give a date of when you should have funds next going in and yes perhaps if they can see short term finance on the account I'm thinking it helps:):o
bad I know but use it to your advantage
I've noticed my short term loan repayment takes days now to process :cool: !!! (though I do only pay little more then a tenner a fortnight, can't grumble)0 -
A CPA will go for your account info not the card info
Cancel your card, get a basic (current if you want or can) account for now., and cancel/switch what you need to.
If you can't afford it/are in financial difficulties write and explain it0
