Morning,I still have my talktalk email address @ no charge, having left t/t i,ve been with O2 then SKy & finally BT.
Never been a problem accessing emails, when moved to O2, couldn't send any emails out, they denied there was a problem, but turned out they were unhappy still using t/t email. When changed to Sky & now Bt no problems can send & receive from t/t email.
I probably left t/t about 5 years ago.

No definitely not. We moved last year and changed from BT to Virgin. BT wrote to me and told me I could not keep my BT email address.
It did not bother me as I had never used it. I use Gmail it is more reliable. I have kept email addresses in the past. I think it is just BT.
Any company that has once been a nationalised company still has lots of government petty rules which probably makes BT different from everyone else.
I would check because it is 11 months since we moved. You cannot even pay to keep your BT email address.0 -

BT was privatised a few years before the internet as we know it came into being. I don't think the effects of being a nationalised company would survive 30 years of being privatised especially on a technology that didn't exist at the point of privatisation so there being no government 'petty rules' in existenceThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. You could start moving from it now, so that you're ready when the time comes to close your account.0

I've still got my @btinternet.com email address with BTsince moving providers.
This was about two years ago and costs me 1.60 a month for all of your BT email addresses including sub accounts. It is worth it for me as I need access to the old emails. Less hassle too.0 -
We've been with TalkTalk for a few years and still have our old Pipex email address, and they don't even exist anymore, they got bought out. It works fine and we've never been told we can't use it.Over futile odds
And laughed at by the gods
And now the final frame

If you do lose your existing address, change to a free webmail address (hotmail, gmail, yahoo etc).
It then does not matter if you change ISP, you will always have the same email address.0 -
I moved over to Plusnet around 2 years ago and still have use of my BT internet email account no problem.0

I'm now with Virgin Media, and like Swampmonster above I have kept my btinternet.com email address (paying £1.60 per month for BT Premium Mail charges). This covers my email & others in my family who are on my sub accounts. I use my btinternet.com address for logging on to my virginmedia.com account and as my email contact with them with no problems.0
