This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning all,

    Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Now light and doesn’t look frosty but if temperatures are around the same as yesterday it was still cold.

Haven’t been at all well but hopefully on the mend now, so house is a tip, nothing is ready for work/school tomorrow. So will be enlisting the help of the menfolk to try to get some sort of order restored.

DS1 was given a driving experience for his 18th birthday – he went to that yesterday, DH took him and my dad and DS2 went with him – I was going, but was too poorly, disappointed that I didn’t get to watch – he drove a Formula Renault car, he loved it though, so that was the main thing.

We’ll be having roast chicken, with the normal accompaniments.

    Have peaceful Sundays everyone x

    Keep safe and well x

  • Morning all. Flipping heck it's a cold one this morning! Frost everywhere and, despite some sun yesterday, the lying snow still hasn't gone.

I left a beef casserole in the sc overnight and I've just added some dumplings for the last half hour. It's smelling delicious and look forward to a bowl of that at lunchtime. Comfort food at its best!

Did jacket spuds for tea yesterday, and had with prawns in a seafood sauce. Did enough spuds to have some left for tea today and will probably have with tuna mayo after a blast in the microwave to warm them up.

I didn't get round to the free Ancestry search yesterday but after lunch I want to get all my folders out and see if I can pick up any new information. It's a good while since I devoted much time to it and need to refresh my memory on where I got to with each "branch" of my tree. Hopefully I can devote all afternoon to it and take advantage of free searches.

Have a good day all. Wrap up warm if you are out and about. x

  • Morning all

I was awoken just after 5 by one of hubby's colleagues, he stayed the night after downing a skinful, well it was his stag do!

He was obviously confused, waking in a strange house & was ricocheting off the walls, I could be polite & put it down to him not being able to find his way around in the dark, but as there are street lights shining in our every window, I'll assume it was the drink. He's back in the land of nod now!

I'll be glad when he & hubby are both up & about as the house is beginning to fill with the miasma of alcohol fueled flatulence.

Still, I had a pleasant evening as I looked after my 4 month old DGD from 7 until 9:45, her mum was at work & her dad took the others to watch a local pantomime, she's such a happy little soul, full of smiles.

When the men finally surface I'll cook them breakfast, later on we'll have lamb chops & roast potatoes.

    Have a good day everyone.

    Hugs Hester

  • Good morning

Thank you RR for starting today's thread.

Have been up since 6.30, woke up feeling quite cold, a really heavy frost as well.

Himself seems to have had a better night, certainly not so much coughing as on previous nights.

Lyn hope you are home safe and sound and you really enjoyed your time with the Zebra child.

We have just had a cooked breakfast, unusual here but felt I needed warming up, WM on and will put the Dyson round shortly. Other than that not a lot planned. Yesterday I made a dozen sausage rolls for the freezer, dozen mince pies and an apple crumble, so the kitchen was warm.

Roast beef and the usual roast and mashed potatoes, broccoli, carrots and yorkies for lunch today.

Have a good day everyone and stay safe and warm

Morning everyone. It's another cold and frosty one again. Yesterday was so mild too.

Slept really well, could have slept longer but the bladder wouldn't let me. Can't imagine how I managed as a teenager!

Plans...today I will dust and vacuum. Can't really put it off any longer, saw a spiders web from the window sofa to the standard lamp. We get such tiny wee spiders that spin such fine wispy threads which are almost dusty. Once I start spotting them it's time to get rid.

I vacuumed the woodburner yesterday, took away two thirds of the ash. Think the meat I cooked yesterday was off so will chuck it out, can't get past my suspicion so not going to risk it.

Brisk walking weather...may have a brisk walk.

    Happy Sunday.

    Morning all,

HH rather you than me in your house today. The thought of alcohol fuelled flatulence fills me with almighty dread.

Gers my bladder got me up twice in the night. I share your pain! No heating on and the bathroom/toilet is downstairs. I curse my bladder at times I really do.

Food shopping today. We didn't do it yesterday. Well we got as far as the supermarket and we even got as far as getting inside but hubby was in a flap over what he'd need for work so I told him to write a list and we'd go today.... As far as I know he still hasn't wrote a list.

The rest of the day will consist of packing his stuff ready for work. He's not sure when he will be home next so I'm sending him with plenty of clothing. He takes on these jobs and then spends the build up to the job and the time he is there moaning about them. So he's not in the best of moods right now.

Youngest spent most of yesterday at work and came home and helped his friend paint his bedroom. I cant see him moving out of his pit today.

The rest of the day.... I'll just go with the flow.

    Onwards and forwards,

    have a great day all.

  • Morning, a bright and sunny morning, I feel so much better when the sun shines, yesterday was so dull.

GGD and Mum went home yesterday, now she will know whats its like to have a small baby in the house and having to get up for night feeds etc. I do not envy my son. I told him to get a pair of earplugs!!

We had a letter yesterday from the council, we are on the list for sheltered housing. We have to look at the list each Monday and if there is anything we can apply for it. It depends on who else applies, if their needs are greater than ours then they get it. This way when anything happens to OH I have security of tenure, and would be able to manage financially as well. We can turn up to four places down in any 6 month period before we go down to the bottom of the list, so we need to make sure that we are successful with at least one, even if we turn it down.

It means we have to get rid of a vast amount of 'stuff' which is why I bought Konmarie's kindle copy of her book last night. I need to down size to the bare minimum before we go if its possible. There are things that cannot go until we know where we are going like the washing machine. If we go into an apartment there are laundry rooms so no washer needed however if we get a bungalow we will need the washer.

It looks like I am going to be busy!!
  • Good Morning everyone, got back home late yesterday afternoon and Zebra sitting was very much fun but exhausting!!! am off again tomorrow for a 2 day stint this time on Tuesday and Wednesday and have to appologise for being AWOL as I have no computer access when I'm away. He's a little pickle but I feel like I know his ways now so this week I shall know what to expect and know what he needs a little better. On Friday morning we got him his first little pair of shoes, size 4 and he then wanted to walk all round Ikea with Oma holding his hands, best fun was walking into the lift, riding in the lift and walking out of it again having utterly charmed all the occupants with his little toothy smile, not that I'm biased of course!! I'll hopefully be back late on Wednesday evening and post again on Thursday, have fun all, Lyn xxx.
  • Grandchildren are the best aren't they Mrs LW, but I agree they are exhausting, I've done nothing all day, but I'm not sure how much is down to the grandchildren & how much is down to the stag do.
I didn't cook the lamb chops, we've just finished all the leftovers from yesterday instead. I'll cook them tomorrow instead.
    Hugs Hester
