Relevancy perhaps ?
The ethnicity of the couple added nothing to the story
In fact if you refer to a couple not everyone will assume you mean a man and a woman - a couple could be a same sex couple - but the point of the story was that they caused disruption on the bus not their nationality or gender.
Exactly that. As a non-Asian I'm not directly affected or offended by this but it's more a point of reason. In this case I was just interested to know why someone's geographic background was relevant to the story.0 -

Do you really think an Asian person would be 'affected' or 'offended' by that reference?0 -
An Englishman, Scotsman, Jew, Asian and Irishman got on my coach. I thought, 'This has got to be a joke!' :cool:0

To be honest I don't know, I was just wondering why singling out someone's descent / ethnic group is important. If there is no intended implication and it's simply to add some description to the story then fine, it just seemed a bit odd to me.0
