de bobbling jumpers

Options
Does anyone have a good tip for debobbling jumpers? currently I'm chopping them off with scissors but it's very time consuming! In the past I'd have just bought a new one but I'm trying to kick my consumerist habit x

I read a tip about shaving the bobbles off with a disposable razor.

It did the worst of them.

Boobles drive me mad and there's little difference whether the jumper is expensive or cheap.

A razor certainly works but you have to be careful at the seams. I nicked there and had to get the sewing needle out.
  • Just use your fingers. If you do it often enough you can get pretty quick! I try to remember to do certain item of clothing with each wash and don't let it build up. I have a technique where I pick and sort of roll so you get an ever-increasing clump between your fingers.
I have also seen some sort of tool advertised somewhere, but fingers are free :)

I have "tools" :) - a sweater shaver like this and a sweater comb like this.

I find the battery shaver works really well on chunky jumpers, but for finer knits I use a disposable razor to shave the bobbles off. (The comb mainly gathers dust :o). The garment needs to be laid flat, so I put it over the ironing board and stretch it slighty before shaving (one of the few things my ironing board is used for :D ). Although it's very time consuming, it's very satisfying to turn a tatty item into a smart one :) I once bought a very bobbled duffel coat from the charity shop for less than a fiver - an hour or so later with the shaver and it was almost as good as new :)

yep - disposable razors. mum gave me a gorgeous 'bobbled' jumper (she knows I will wear 'anything' in the house) and I went over it with a razor and she nearly asked for it back!

Ooh thank you, I've got loads of disposable razors so I'll try that!
