This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.
Good morning, everyone. It has been a beautiful day here - sunny but not that cold and wonderfully clear across the harbour. The not-breadmaker bread turned out lovely when I baked it at lunchtime. My brother's gf prefers it to the breadmaker stuff, but it's a matter of making enough and finding a good moment to do it vs the breadmaker where you bung everything in and forget about it. Anyway, we're off to a murder mystery hosted and written by one of our friends tonight, so that should be fun.

Morning all,
ive been up and playing on here over an hour. Damn pain in my gum. I struggled with sleep since 2am (I should have got up and took some painkillers but I didn't). Anyway I've took some now and the ache is easing.
Youngest has just gone to work and I'm about to strip his bed.
Food shopping today. The cupboards are bare.
Onwards and forwards,
have a great day all. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Morning all. Unless I am getting used to this weather I'm sure it feels less cold this morning! Maybe today is the day the snow will finally be gone! It's a week since it snowed and a lot of it is still there.
No real plans for this weekend so might have a potter on Ancestry as it's free this weekend only. I spent a fortune on there when I first retired delving into my family history. It almost became an addiction and I had numerous family lines going on! My best result was getting back to 1568 on my maternal grandma's line and "meeting" distant relatives in this country and USA both online and in person.
Have a good weekend one and all whatever your plans. Take care x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning all,
Seems a bit milder here too although I have not been out yet, yesterday was so sold I could not stand out in it for loo long without my eyes streaming in the wind, although I got all of my towels washed and just about dried, a quick 5 mins in the TD finished them off.
Off to work today, the house is reasonably tidy as I did through yesterday so not much for OH to do, he will be in charge of cooking though, I need to get something out of the freezer for dinner though. DD coming tonight as she is working tomorrow so will need to get something veggie out too.
Right better get on have good days all xx0 -
Thank you for mentioning the ancestry weekend offer TravellingAbuela. I'm using the free latter day saints resource to look at my dad's family at the moment but those records aren't as detailed as ancestry. I'll be sure to make some time to explore this weekend, thanks0

Morning all
Quiet day for me , nothing on the agenda although I think I might turf out the side board in the dining room , it has become a depository for all the odd papers and bits people don't know what to do with ( more like cba to put away properly )
My back is particularly bad this morning , stiff and painful , I did some exercises yesterday that I watched on yootoob to help with a stiff back ...... Nope not worked  so I am currently sat with a hot water bottle on it and I've had max dose of ibuprofen
Haven't ventured outside so haven't checked the temperature. I went for a walk yesterday afternoon and it was soooo cold:eek: my eyes were streaming too redruby I ended up wearing my sunglasses to try and stop them running lol
Have a good weekend everyone xx0 -

I saw an advert last night on tv otherwise I wouldn't have known. I did quite well using the latter day saints site at one point. That was where I picked up the trail that eventually took me back to 1568. Agree their details are limited but you never know, you might strike lucky like I did."If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning all
Fish fed, hubby has a cuppa in bed, by 7:30 DGD & I were cutting out fabric to make an Olaf, and she's asking questions 19 to the dozen about fabric, colours & sewing.
We are making butterfly cakes later & once she's gone I'm making the food for our guests tonight & changing the bed so they have somewhere to sleep.
The WM & DW are chugging away & I'll run the vacuum around later.
TA & Fuddle, my cousin & I researched our family tree, we found all sorts of information, it was very interesting.
Time I went & rescued my dressmaking scissors before she cuts holes in her jamas or my silk rug!
Have a good day everyone

Morning All,
Most of the remaining snow went yesterday but i got up to a heavy frost. As i have no plans for going anywhere today i am not to bothered by the weather. DH is working until 12 lunch time today and he is planning on chopping logs for the woodburner this afternoon.
I plan on completing my daily chores list, finishing Kondoing my photos, doing some crocheting and keeping warm.
Have a warm, safe and happy day everyone

Hi everyone,
We're just about to set out to look at a wedding venue in the Lakes. TBH it's very unlikely we will go with it as the budget is several thousand more than the venue in Norfolk we saw last week. The only downside is the distance the groom's family would have to travel to Norfolk.
Poor dd is suffering with her shoulder and arm, she saw an osteopath who has told her she has trapped some muscles and nerves between a couple of ribs, ouch. He's helped her and she has to go back on Tuesday so I'm hoping he will sort her out quickly.
Have a good day.0 -
Snoozer We had similar distances Snoozer, Us Donny, Wedding Highgate, Reception near Stevenage. Booked some Premier Inn rooms as soon as 1 year ahead, which could be cancelled any time up to the date, not quite as cheap as the offer prices, but not far off. We paid for a couple of rooms for those with young families, and put on a mini bus from hotel to church and back to reception. We are only a very small family though. Those who care about them will travel. Lakes always OTT. To be honest the distance was similar, but just driveable for DDIL's relatives as they all live south of London.
Seems we were very lucky with the timing and route we chose down here, the day after folk got stuck in deep snow just outside Santander, when they got off the ferry. Also seems there has been some snow in the hills behind us, but on our patio it has been lovely in the sun.
Not been far yet, only shopping, it has been very windy, and has been taking my breath, but a neighbour passed me something to help get the phlegm off my chest, which is helping. Never heard of them before, but think some will be going home with me, as this is the problem I always have with a cold. Last night we had SC beef (which fell to bits) with mash, carrots, brocolli and green beans. Enough left for today too
Rather overcast at the moment, but forecast sun, and much less windy.
((hugs)), spoons, positive vibes all round. Take care everyone. DGMember #8 of the SKI-ers Club
Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?0
