Mortgage in single or joint names

My husband earns approx 30k and I am a housewife. We have just moved out of our property which has consent to lease. My husband has received an inheritance and we are considering buying another home. When I look at the affordability calcs the joint borrowing amount is greatly reduced.

Would my husband be able to borrow more if he applied for a mortgage in his name only or would this not make a difference?

You would be declared as a dependent even if you are not named on the mortgage. You are fooling yourselves by attempting to circumnavigate lending rules. Hence why MMR was imposed on the lenders. People are overly optimistic as to own financial circumstances.

Many lenders will not accept a single application from your husband.
