Getting married abroad, no guests

My OH and I are thinking about getting married in the next year or two but don't want a big fuss and just want to slip off and do it quietly.
We've been thinking the easiest way to do this without any family getting offended about not being invited is to get married abroad and tell everyone when we get back.
I don't know where to begin though, has anyone on here done this before and can anyone suggest somewhere we could go for a combined holiday/wedding?

vegas is not to everyone's taste but would certainly cover the getting married bit. We had a helicopter ride from there into the grand canyon which was amazing and we then hired a car, drove through death valley, Sequoia national park (where we got engaged), then across to the coast, through Cambria, Monterey and finished staying with my aunt and uncle just outside San Francisco, where we took the boat out to Alcatraz amongst other things.

Don't know if that appeals?

we've been looking at this either "eloping" or with a few guests.

Try googling Elopment we found a lot there and also on Kuoni, sandals and thompson holidays, from what i've seen it appears to be a good idea to do it through an agency as they can help with arranging the day and also advise on any rules or regulations.

I like the idea of Vegas but my OH hates the idea, and it might be a bit out of our budget anyway.
CharlieRabbit - We normally put all of out holiday together ourselves and haven't used a travel agent in years, so I'm a bit worried that if we try and book a wedding package we'll end up paying a lot more for the service, though you're right it would probably be a lot easier that way.
I'm not particularly fussy about where we end up but don't want it to be in a massive resort with loads of tourists. I do like the idea of getting married on a beach somewhere warm though!

This is something we do as well, the main thing I've been looking at agents for is ideas, locations etc an advice page i found that I now cant find suggests a wedding planner.

The options appear to be endless.

Your main issue is going to be the paperwork - you'll have a marriage certificate from the country where the legal marriage takes place, so you need to have all this in order. This will probably dictate which countries are viable options. If it's from a non-English-speaking country you might need legalised translations if it is needed for paperwork in this country. In fact, a lot of people that "get married" abroad often have the legal marriage done here, then have some sort of ceremony abroad.

I got married in the Dominican Republic. It was17 years ago at that time the hotels were amazing but I think there are lots of lovely hotels in Spain and Europe however the beaches in the Caribbean area lovely. It was just my husband and I that went we met people over there in the hotel who stood for us. Yes it would have been lovely to have the big White wedding but we simply didn't have the money I think my wedding with holiday included £2200 I was only 18 and really wouldn't change a thing. I'm sure if it's ur choice no one will mind my husband has a real dislike of crowds and I didn't think it was fair on him to force the wedding on him so maybe you could just say your reasons and whatever they are I'm sure they will just be happy ur getting married. Me and hubby got hitched in NYC 4 years ago. You have to get your marriage license 24 hrs before you want to get married and the just turn up at the marriage bureau (similar to a registry office)and wait for your turn. It cost about 60 dollars. For us was perfect. No fuss and a bit different.

Maybe Gibraltar, British territory and beautful place with nice weather. Lots of history and things to do there, I went for a day trip while I was holidaying in Spain and would love to back. There was a TV programme about it and a couple went there to get married

Me and the hubby got married at St Pauls Bay, Lindos, Rhodes. It was perfect. We met almost 10 years to the day in Lindos so it was a very special place. We used a wedding planner called Lindos Weddings whom we can't fault at all. They make everything very simple and were well worth the money. They have a Facebook page and a website where you can see the beautiful pictures. There are several options from getting married in the grounds of one of the three chapels, to in a hotel nearby, or on the beach itself. And there are lots and lots of places to choose for an intimate wedding breakfast. Everything depends on your budget obviously! I wish I could go back and do it all over again - it was so wonderful.
