I have recently left the armed forces after 12 years and have been awarded the 1/2 pension. This means at 60 i get a £12500 lump sum and then a monthly percentage of £4455 a year. All this is index linked however is there any chance i can: a) get a valuation on my pension 'pot' and b) get hold of it sooner if the brown stuff hits the fan.

its not investment linked so there is no value in that sense. You can get a transfer value but you would lose a fortune if you transferred it.
What brown stuff do you think is going hit the fan?I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
You cannot access the money before 60, unless, IIRC, you are diagnosed as terminally ill (although that may just be for active members of the scheme rather than defered members like yourself)0
