Im moving to Widnes (Hough Green) in a few weeks, anyone got any info on the area, ive looked at Knowhere.co.uk but any tips or things to do etc would be great!
Where and what would my local shops be? Whats the market like and what do they sell? Nearest and cheapest Gym or leisure centre?
Anything im so excited that any info on the area would be great!

I live in Liverpool and go shopping at Widnes Market once a week. There is an indoor and outdoor market, open every day except tuesday and sunday. They sell a good variety of stuff, lots of clothes stalls, butchers, fruit etc. There is also Alberts stall, that sells ex catalogue stuff at greatly reduced prices. The market is located right next to the shopping centre, which has a good selection of stores. Morrisons, TJ Hughes, Woolworths, Wilkinsons etc. There is also an Asda store about a 3 minute drive away. You will be about a half hour drive from Cheshire Oaks in Ellesmere Port, a huge outlet village , which is well worth a visit.

Unfortunately Queensway boy is right. You do get a whiff of chemicals from the ICI plant when the winds blowing the wrong way. Not as frequent as it used to be a few years ago though.0

I'm not surprised you're excited, it's the jewel of the north-west...
Yeah, it doesn't smell as bad as it used to, ahhh the aroma of my childhood. Hough Green is pretty nice though. Can't help but notice that other than the market we're all directing you straight out again.
I don't know if there is anything closer to you but there is the Kingsway Leisure Centre which is further down than the brand spanking new Asda (complete with McDonalds, and they say you can't buy class).
As far as non-food shopping goes you would be better to go to Liverpool or even closer (but not quite as good) is Warrington, where there's an Ikea amongst other things. Cheshire Oakes is good, the usual discount stuff, plus next door there's a "complex" with Borders, Frankie & Bennys etc.
If you see any retro looking blondes with huge hair don't worry it's just Mick Cassidy, Widnes Vikings Rugby League player. Which reminds me, to fully initaiate yourself into Halton culture get yourself to the most glamourous of establishments - The Cricketers Arms before any Widnes match and you'll be in for a treat. :beer:0 -

Thanks Alec
Id forgotten about Ikea! Yey!!
There is a bus stop right outside my new house that will take me to Liverpool so that will save me finding parking spaces!
Right the cricketers arms it is then! Lol Do i need Tattoos to get in? :eek:0 -
