Customer relations are now saying the the person they sent out to my property wasn't trined and is just video person. He told my husband that he has no doubt that the wind blew the roof of the garage and there's no arguing that one! he said it would all need replaced the roof the ceiling in the garage guttering, facia etc. he gave us list of what was covered and if there's anything else they need to phone the insurance company but that all that would be replaced.
I'm nearly sure I was told on my initial phonecall they were sending out there adjuster?Atkins started 26 Jan 09 so far lost 14lb 7lb to go0 -
I find it quite amazing that so many home owners assume that insurance is their 'Get out if Jail free' card.
OP. Your neighbour may well have had their garage rebuilt, but you are not comparing apples with apples. It was most likely a completely different insurance company and the policy wording (ie the contract between insurers and homeowners) may be completely different.
Many detached garages (mine included) are built without planning permission or building regs. Even if Building Regs were applicable, don't assume the home owner applied for them.[/QUOTE
Wow check out the insurance company police

What is so wrong with that? Your garage roof has come off so it needs to be replaced, some builders don't want small jobs, the garage has been fine for you on the foundation that it has been on, so the insurance only needs to put you back in the position you were in prior to the incident. Is it a pitch roof ? metallized roofing is not overly expensive. I don't think you did answer if the garage is an integral or detached one?0 -

Yes metal roofing, my previous garage had a corrugated iron apex roof, my current one has a galvanised metal roof, the neighbour two doors away has changed theirs from a felt roof to galvanised metal , integral garages usually at the front of the house often have pitch roofs. Some have cement fibre board, some even have asbestos!!!
It does seem you are trying to get a new garage out of the insurance company for a deter'd roof. Part of the T&Cs suggest the property must be kept in a maintained state.0 -

"Loss assessors" work for YOU, (policyholder).independent professionals who are employed by you to protect your interests some on % of claim some charge "the shark that works for you"

Just had a call there from the insurance company theyre replacing the roof and any other damage which was caused. There investigating if there is subsidence. They are giving me £150 compensation too. ✨
So it least there is some justice for honest claimants.
