Small achievement in ftd's house

As you know since the new year, I decided I wanted to clear my debt and make some savings. I have had some trouble convincing my husband that this is the right thing for us to do.

Our HP agreements all end this year, the catalogues should be clear by Dec and my loan should be cleared by Dec 2017 - 2 years earlier than planned.

My husband has been nagging me for a new camera he wants, he sold a couple of things recently and said he'd like to use the proceeds as a deposit to put down on a finance agreement for a new camera. I went along with his idea for a few hours and then told him I didn't think it was a good idea to get ourselves in to another HP agreement when we are so close to getting rid of them all. Instead we are saving up to buy a new camera outright!

Just wanted to share my proud of myself moment.

    Nice one.

A friend of mine is, well, let's say a little bit careless when it comes to money. It reached a stage where his wife took over the finance reins, had him pay all his wages into her account, apart from a £100 allowance each month.

Now they overpay on their mortgage, no CC debt and have a nice savings pot built up. Proves you need to be cruel to be kind at times.

  • thanks both.
I have always had control of the finances, but unfortunately I was too soft and said yes to everything the husband wanted putting it all on CCs, we finally cleared those in Dec last year, so I'm determined to stay away from them.
