Is there anything in the name "road" which means or implies that bicycles shouldn't go on them?

Before the Roman came to Rye, or 'cross the Severn rode, the rolling English drunkard built the rolling English road..................

If anything, only rowing boats should be allowed on them, and only then ones that have previously been rowed in the past but are currently stationary.

    Yup.

The word 'road' is derived from the same old-English root as the word 'ride' and therefore indicates a route suitable for horses. As opposed to a 'path' which is just for people. Of course, by the same argument, they are not suitable for cars either. Or buses.

Sadly, no. Before the Romans came there were no English, drunk or otherwise, to be found here in Britain, and they certainly didn't build any roads.

    I certainly wouldn't "ride" a bicycle - I can't imagine a less appropriate word...

I blame the closure of all those residential hospitals: sometimes care in the community isn't an adequate replacement..

We have now reached the point where it seems to be accepted that the vociferously stupid are somehow better than normal people... And that sad old bitter idiots have the right to post their petulant rants all over the place, instead of sticking to the PSYCHIATRIST'S COUCH where they belong.

Now Now young 'un. Nothing wrong with being a bit sad, old and bitter especially when I get cut up by a car when I cycle.
