Welcome
I don't think there is a 'debt company' set up by the government.
There are a number of charities offering debt advice, some of which receive some funding from the goverment.
A list of recommended debt advice charities is on this link - IMPORTANT - Where to seek professional impartial advice about your debts.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -

I think you are referring to ad`s placed by various fee taking debt management companies, which mentions a "new government scheme".
They are basically trying to sell you a debt solution, and trying to make it look as though its run by the government, it isn't.
There are a number of debt solutions, available from various sources, IVA, DMP, DRO, these are set up by government, but, with the exception of a DMP, are run by the insolvency service.
If you need help with your debts, have a look on the National debtline website, or stepchange, neither of these will charge you for information.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. I wondered if you were thinking of the Money Advice Service?

They are not really set up to give debt advice but process the government funding for it, most of which in England goes to the CAB
