Simple vows

Options
So, OH and I are (well me lol) are planning a simple registry office wedding, with around 8 guests.
We both hate being centre of attention so there will be no speeches/first dance etc and I've been looking at some vows and I know my OH would be mortified reading them out loud, as would I!

Has anyone got any suggestions for something simple, yet meaningful?X

If it's in a registry office I think you have 3 different types of vows to chose from as per the legal requirements of the wedding ceremony: the traditional, the slightly more modern and then a simple version. Anything else you want to say I think has to be approved by the registrars. If you go to the website for the registry office you wish to use, it should explain the different versions you can have.

There are 3 different options and we've gone for simplest as OH is similar- "I am" and "I .... take you..... to be my husband/ wife"

There area couple of legally required required elements/vows but they can be done in about 5 minutes.... the registrar will usually add some nice words to spin it out a bit, and you can add in readings/music yourself (non-religious) if you want.

Speak to the registrar and tell them what you want - they should be happy to adjust the words to suit.

Depends how much you want in terms of 'extras' like readings/music, but in theory as little as ten minutes. We had a civil ceremony (at an approved venue rather than a registry office) with the simplest words possible and two readings and were out of there in 20 minutes!

We had the simplest civil ceremony and were in and out in less than 15 minutes, including photos. :) When you give notice they send you a book with your ceremony plan, you just go through and tick/fill in the bits you want to say/have the registrar say then send it back.
Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!

  • We had a very simple ceremony (no readings, music or long vows) and including signing the register and having photos it probably took 15-20mins!

Best wishes for your big day!
