I apologise if this is the wrong place to write this but I'm new to the site.
My mother is 88yrs old and lives in a warden controlled flat. Recently she has found it hard to move around and gets dizzy spells. I work full time, see her daily but not until around 5.30pm. The doctor says she needs fresh air daily, so I want to hire a lady who already does odd jobs for other residents one morning a week. If I hire this lady for 5hrs a day for 5 days a week, would I have to pay her national insurance etc, and will there be a lot of paperwork?
Thank you for any advice you may have.

If she is doing similar to others then it sounds like she is self employed and thus she has to do her own taxes/ NI and you pay her gross.
There is always a small risk that HMRC decide that actually she is your employee and not self employed and therefore you become liable for Employers NI (this is separate to Employee NI) but given its only 5/hr per week and she is doing the same for others etc the risks are low.0 -
Thank you...this was really useful.0
