My 7 year old grandson has asked me to knit him a ski mask type hat.
I have spent hours searching online and cant find one suitable - even the local wool shop didn't have one - only the open face balaclava helmet - I already have a pattern for that.
now, does anyone know of a pattern which is balaclava type but has the front part covering the mouth and nose but has a fairly large eye opening?
Or is there a way to adapt the balaclava pattern I already have? I did think of knitting the balaclava as instructed then inserting a 'panel' before doing some rib around the opening - would that work?
Thanks

yes I looked at those - but the one closest to the style he wants is a crochet one! and its for a grown up. and I cant crochet! (well, only granny squares) but thanks for trying to help.0 -
HAve you checked on Ravelry? if you're not a member and you knit, I highly recommend it - it's free, but you need to sign up.

I think should fit your bill, it's a free pattern, but you'll need to sign up.

I am a member on ravelry and checked that out.
GS2 was quite specific on what he wants - sorry, I should have said. he saw my pattern of the balaclava (its a traditional one) and said 'Yes, like that - but I want it to cover my mouth and nose'. he liked that it was close fitting to the neck and head. he doesn't like the ones with eye holes or mouth holes - 'bank robber' masks!
He has been so good about my knitting his new sister loads of matinee sets etc - I really want to make him his 'ski mask' exactly as he wants it. and in his favourite footy team colours!0
