WE JUST BOUGHT A STATIC CARAVAN
we were on a dfw holiday ie free near silloth when we found a fantastic campsite 120 acres LOADS of stuff for the kids and started to look at statics and we bought one
no OH got no debt at all and mine is 0% intreset and will be paid by the end of the year we have worked out that the van and the yearly site fees are easily manageable also we both from big families and they all want to book week/weekends in it (booked thro til begining of next june lol) so we will only have to pay £175ish of the site fees per year
we as a family havent had a holiday in 6 years couldnt afford it now we can as all debts will be gone by xmas its only 2 hours away so we can go whenever we want forge new friends from other owners i get to keep my sanity as they kids will be off practically all day except when they need to feed lol
the loan is £200 a month over 4 years with no penalty for overpayments which OH can afford and when i paid off gran i will be addind an extra £300 a month = £500 off loan which with somemore ebaying/carbooting we can have it paryed by next xmas
but its still debt isnt it? and yes im slightly concerned
we are not impulsive people but this just felt right IYSWIM
but is this a justifiable treat oafter all these years hard slog geting nearly DF it will be used a lot

Looks more like an investment than a loan, Webitha. If you can rent it out, then not only will you and your extended family be able to have some great low-cost holidays, but you could actually make a profit. :T :TI am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I know exactly how you feel. It is a hard slog and you need something to relieve the monotony. Well why not as you've got a solid plan to repay and as long as you stick to it. Good luck. Enjoy it.The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0

I am sure there are a few DFWs orMoneySavers who would be interested in renting it for long weekends or full holidays. Definitely a useful investment, potentially a moneymaker. Rent it out for £100-200 pw during the busy season, and you'll pay the monthly cost with ease!
Is there a rule about trading with other DFWs? Maybe worth emailing Martin Lewis directly and finding out if he would support a trade forum for established users.
Good luck anyway! Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

The chances are that you will get your capital back if you ever needed to sell it, and in the meantime you are able to rent it out, and get lots of use yourself.
I don't think you have been silly - I think you have made a pretty sensible purchase.

Sounds fantastic Webitha.
I'm sure you will enjoy it and use it loads. I would buy one if I could. We've not had a family holiday for 7 years.
Love your sig by the way, I'm obviously not grown up yet

Sounds like an investment than a loan. Theres nothing wrong with this.
Consider it a sort of business loan.
Good luck.0 -
