I've been toying with the idea of upgrading my machine to one that can make rye bread and brioche, and found that today amazon has lowered the warehouse deal prices (they are returns, with cosmetic damage and/or unboxed but you can still return them if you are not happy, for free if they are not working properly or not as described).

I know other people were looking for one. These are the lowest prices I found. when I was looking:

I saw one on E.bay for £64 main unit only (no pan or paddles). You can use paddles from older machines, not sure about the pan. Quite a few used ones as well (but no guarantee which is what put me off...)

Amazon wharehouse deals: gone down to £84.80 (with minor scratches)
or £91 just repackaged (UPDATE prices lowered on 3/2 to 81.67 and 89.99)
(in my experience descriptions are not always accurate, often the product has been better, only once not as good as I expected).

Happy baking, can't wait to get mine to have some nice rye bread ;)

PS If you don't need rye bread, brioche or the dispenser the more basic 2500 might be cheaper but personally I've not seen any good offers around (currently around £81 like new amazon WD price).

PPS well if you want to look at the manual to check the full specs you'll have to google it yourself because they removed the link. Odd...

    I have the 2500, it's great.

It's now 5 years since I bought a loaf and it gets used about 4 times a week. Really must get around to trying the cake functions ...

now that you say that maybe the difference is the rye programme and the dispenser, but the brioche programme is also on the 2500?

I use mine on and off, but I've had it for at least 7-8 years and it's well used. Will be nice to have the new programmes though.

It's mostly the dispenser, I think I can bake rye but I think the 2501 has more options for it. I've definitely made the brioche - it's in the recipe book but a bit too rich for me - the neighbours loved it though!

The first two years with a no-brand machine before the Panasonic were challenging but the Panasonic makes every loaf perfectly.

I think the 2051 has a specific rye programme that lets you make bread with up too 100% rye and the 2500 only with a smaller amount of rye using the basic bread programme.
Spelt and buckwheat will be interesting variations too, although I expect flours will be expensive.

PS Amazon have lowered the price even more!
  • Great deal.
Rye bread is so easy to make though. Four ingredients. Mix. Leave. Bake in oven. Done :D It's numpty proof (because I can do it)

I bought and I've made one brioche and two rye breads. the 100% one didn't look edible, but the 50/50 white wheat and white rye is fantastic, absolutely perfect (I added a 1/2 a teaspoon of extra yeast just to be on the safe side).
A second brioche is baking right now, I put only 90g of butter (all at the beginning, the lazy option) because it was too greasy for me.
Can't wait to try it (I choose the panettone recipe although I don't expect it to be a proper panettone because I can't see how it can replicate the soft crust, and distinctive consistency but I'm sure it's going to be a delicious fruit brioche :j)
Next it's going to be spelt, I can't wait. I've been scouring nordic websites in search of interesting bread recipes (with the help of google translate...).
