Is Wonga out of Wonga?

Hi, Bit miffed off with Wonga at the moment. Since Wonga had their wrist slapped by the "Financial Powers That Be" I, together with thousand of others have had my account 'suspended'. I cannot get a Loan with them - even though my "credit history" with them is good/excellent.

This is a chat conversation I had with them today. This was their reply. I'm interested to know your views on this too:

All comments in this post are my own views and aren't a statement of fact. If Wonga are upset by my views I apologise in advance.

Ridwaan F: Hi, Welcome to Wonga.com. How can I help you?

You: I've been trying to login to my account and it won't let me apply. It's saying my account is not migrated. This has been going on for ages. Do you want my business or not?

Ridwaan F: All accounts are being migrated in groups by an automated system we are not able to manually update these accounts.

Ridwaan F: You will receive an email once you able to log in.

You: according to my records its been MONTHS since this started. I feel like I'm being discriminated against because I can't apply.

Ridwaan F: Unfortunately we are not able to provide a time frame.

You: why? ...

You: ... In this internet age. sounds to me like Wonga doesn't have any Wonga!

Ridwaan F: It is being managed by an automated system.

You: Rubbish - no its not (in my view). I'm not that stupid Ridwaan

You: a friend of mine wrote in to complain and had his account activated

Ridwaan F: You are more than welcome to email customercomplaints@wonga.com.

You: Yes. and what's that going to do? get the same response as you're guys in India. "It's an automated process" - Yes, based on Wonga recouping the monies lost in their last muck up. Its a disgrace. I have been good customer of Wonga and always paid you back on time and you treat me like this? NOT HAPPY

======= END QUOTE FROM ONLINE CHAT ========

Thanks in advance

For all you know, he could be correct.

I used to work for HMRC at the time of the introduction of New Tax Credits. We had a number of claims that were 'stuck in the system' that we on the helpline didn't have access to. We could offer no timeline for when they would be processed - that was our official guidance. We had no way of knowing when they would go through.

The chap on the line could well be telling the truth.

    My views
-The lender is not obligated to make further loans to you.

-The lender is not obligated to allow you to apply for further loans.

-If you have any current outstanding loans with them and your are unable to access your account to see what is outstanding then I would write to them to request they send a monthly statement by post.

-If you really want to apply for a payday loan there are many other companies offering them, some cheaper than Wonga

-Borrowing on payday loans is very very rarely the best option for people or a good idea.

Yes, that's probably exactly what Ridwaan F was thinking.

As Gaz83 says, what Ridwaan was telling you is quite possibly true. You don't have to give Wonga your business. You could go to another PDL or you could manage your finances better so that you don't need to use PDL at all.

How would you like it if someone spoke to you at work like you spoke to Ridwaan?

If you can manage to pay back Wonga loans together with their extortionate interest. Then why can you not save up a reserve fund to stop you having to use Wonga in the first place.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

That was some time ago. How have you managed to survive without a Wonga loan since then?

    There is life without Wonga.
  • We're to near a general election...

No seriously I feel for people who lose their jobs when these 'businesses' (just like any other really) bow out, while repaying my loan gives me a reason to work...

Time for a change - 3 lenders passed undercover investigations and they weren't the former big 3
