letting referee know

is it a good thing to let a referee know that an employer may contact them in regards to a reference. I have sought permission from him before hand. I am just waiting for some checks within the nhs and its painfully slow. Just want to feel like i am doing something.

Crb should be fine as i havent had any trouble before but hr have not contacted me about anything as of yet and need to show my id up at the hospital sometime. i have untill wednesday before i contact the recruiter to get things moving as its been about 4 weeks now.

Let them know. Also tell them what you want them to write (I'm being serious).

That's exactly the sort of person (an academic) who needs advice on what to put! Otherwise you'll just get a cut and paste reference with your name wrote in :)
  • As they are being asked to do something that really/ hopefully is for your benefit its a common courtesy to ask them beforehand. It can also give them an opportunity to highlight things that may be relevant (eg they're going on a 2 month holiday so wont be around to do it or they advise they're not willing to do it so you dont get a non-response from them which is generally interpreted as a bad reference)

He said its fine. I think this guy will be fine at it as he will do a lot for nursing students going onto working in the NHS. He was a tutor so has a lot of stuff about me.
