Monday 2 February - What small DFW things will you do today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym
But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.
Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending .
So be proud of those small steps, they really are important:money:

We are decorating one of our spare rooms (I use it for my clothes etc). Husband to be took the pine bed down yesterday as we are looking to buy an ottoman in the future and it is very rarely used. I put the pine bed on ebay last night including a buy now option and sold it within an hour.
The guy came to collect it at 8am today and gave £50 cash so that £50 can be used to buy the paint today, plus we have Nectar points to use.
It is a bit of a luxury redecorating a room but it makes me smile to think that I have got some money back for decorating for now. A bit like a short term cash flow win.
Good luck everyone.0 -
Morning Ziggy & XJ
It's very cold here today as well. I am going to walk down to B & Q later on this morning which is a lovely walk through a park by a river (until you get to Catford) as I need to do some research on building materials. I'm looking forward to the walk.
As OH got paid Friday I am still paying a few bills today. Cast a quick eye over the bank account already. All looked ok except the bill to Supanet was much higher than usual. I suspect that may be the affect of my 2 hour phone call to a mobile the other night. But it was important. Will be suggesting Skype next time.
I'm looking forward to seeing how we've done with our gas and electric consumption this month as we are currently having to pay £105 a month to clear the usage that First Utility messed up by refunding us in the summer. Last month our bill was £76 which meant the remainder went to clearing the debt. Think we owed them £190 in the end after they'd put a goodwill gesture on.
I will check if the ebay limit has dropped off my account and if yes get on with listing things. I'm not going to pay 35p per item just to list items that may not sell.
Today may be a NSD if I can work out a menu and lunchboxes for tommorow.
Will be walking or cycling all journies today & seeing what I find whilst out.
Have a good day all.

Just a quick tip I meant to pass along, but forgot. If any of you use Tesco, you may not have noticed but at the very bottom of your reciept there is a line that states something like tell us what you think of your shopping experience for 25 clubcard points & entry into a £1000 draw. You can only do it once per month, but 25 points simply for answering about 10 quick multi choice questions is pretty good id say." Your vibe attracts your tribe":D

Morning all :j
Thanks for starting us off Ziggy
So far today I have:
Got up early to the dog
Checked banks
Made bread in bread machine - smells lush
Cleaning- OH helped, hoovering hard floors downstairs, decluttered and cleaned the little brick and glass thingy at the back of the house (too small and scruffy to call it a conservatory), washed floors
Decluttering - I am right into this nowThis morning I have done the bathroom cabinet, excess glass jars (I save them for jams and chutney but have too many awkward shaped ones, into the recycling with them) and junk in back porch thingy
Put shopping away, Ocado man has been
Still to do:
Go to sales unit and tidy up after weekend Done, more items gone, AND it was payday, so cheque to the bank
Get rid of a load of paper recycling in the paper bin in the supermarket car park Done
Couple of bits I need that were out of stock with Ocado (or I forgot to include them in the order), I will pick them up while I am there
Done - must update Feb GC
Make pastry for a pie for dinner laterDone, also made a quiche shell for later in the week and some scones to use up some OOD milk
Put old bike that I will never use, plus another couple of bits on Freecycle. The bike needs a little attention and is old, so not worth trying to sell it. Someone might like to take it on as a small project thoughDone
More decluttering Pondering what to do next...
Put bins out so that the refuse collectors take away the junk that I have decluttered Done
Right, better get on0 -
Ziggy - I've sold quite a bit of stuff on ebay. I've done best on vintage items & clothes. Knitting/craft mags can be variable. I've managed to sell some, but I think it can sometimes be a case of people looking to buy certain issues to make up a complete print run. This could explain why one knitting mag I listed sold for over £5. The ones which generally sold best were my old pile of 'Needlepoint Gold', as someone in Poland wanted them & I agreed to send outside the UK on that occasion because the buyer sent me such a lovely email about wanting to buy them for her Mum. I list mags in small batches, only on free listings & if they haven't sold after 3 or 4 goes, they are given away. Relisting is very quick...just a click, so it's only the first listing that takes the effort.
