Little unespected money, what do i do

Ok as the title says i have got a little money i never expected, £150. no the thing is i dont know what to do with it. I am doing really well in my DMP and already upped my payment by nearly 50% in a year.
£150 is not really going to touch my debt and i want to use it for summin else.
My girlfriend is a star and very understanding with regard to my debt so i want to treat her a little. She wants a ds lite and i wouldnt normally have the money but as its unexpected i wont miss it. its not a massive amount that is life changing so think this is the best option. She will prob be annoyed if i get it saying she dont need it but deserves it none the less lol.
Right so options are
i) pay into dmp
ii) buy girlfriend present
iii) spend on bits for bike which im enjoying buying gradually and its my birthday soon so can ask for the other bits i need then
what would you do??
thanks in adanvce

As you have your DMP under control, I would treat you/gf.
Enjoy the little bonus! Its easy for us to forget we have to live as well as pay off debts.
Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

Hi biglad
What a nice dilemma to have!
If I were you I would be very tempted to put at least some of it into the DMP and bring that debt-free date a bit closer.
What about £100 into the DMP and £50 for a present?
She's right, she doesn't need a ds lite. A nice meal out, an outing somewhere special, or something to wear - any of those would show you love her and thank her for her support.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
Why not have £50 for each thing? That way you both get a treat and £50 comes off your debt? It might not seem like it will make a difference but every little bit helps.
I paid off little extra bits here and there and over the last year or so and that's amounted to about £350!Last bet : 26th Oct 2006:j Debt free 25th Feb 2008:j Living "my" dream:T0 -
I agree with Seawxyn, I would put £100 towards debts and £50 for a treat ... if I was your gf I would rather you put it towards debts because that would show me you were determined to clear them rather than fritter it on something you/she dont actually need (ds lite), which I'm guessing

could be the reason you have debts?? £50 is still enough to treat her with and show her that you appreciate her help

thanks for your replys.
the thing is we have it all planned out, im getting a payrise in jan and adding this to dmp, then i just need to be debt free by 2010 september so she can do her PGCE, and at current are paying a loan off to nan when we moved into own house so will prob give her a bit, buy a new part for my new build bike (mountain bike that is my transport everywhere
) cook her a pizza, she loves pizza and get her a ds. fell at a time when we are both on a weeks break from work so we are spedning time together anyway.
the debt to nan will be paid off dec so thats another £100 added to DMP so will increase to £500 from current £320 as girl is going to put her £50 towards nan into my DMP so might just enjoy it whilst i can lol
Thanks again0 -
Well it sounds like you are very sorted and organised so congratulations, and enjoy your windfall.
(i still think the ds lite is a waste of money though - basically a toy, for an adult? - but perhaps that's just me being an old fogey!)
Enjoy your week off and your pizza and good luck with becoming debt-free.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
well its for the brain training she wants it.
also i have to work away some nights and she cant sleep so will give her summin to do in bed.
they are good fun, well just had another unexpected £50 so now will pay some towards debt or put in a savings account towards debts as i want to get enough money to try and offer full and final settlements so this can be a start
Thanks for all your replys
