Major blip!

Hi all,

I haven't posted for a while as been through a bit of a blip but I coming out the other side so thought I would share with you all.

In June 2013 my mum was suddenly diagnosed with terminal cancer, it was a big shock and sadly by aug 2013 she had passed away. I never really got my head round this and to cope I turned to spending money I didn't have. I was going out and having lavish meals spending times with friends and kidding myself and friends that I was coping and having a good time. Reality was I still couldn't not accept what had happened

I got into a horrible pay day loan cycle. March 2014 Mother's Day- I had a LBM and thought what the hell am I doing- I was already on a dmp and had made good progress with this but had just ruined all the good work I had done.

I phoned payplan again and they were fantastic and worked out I had an extra 1.5k to add onto my debt- I agreed to increase my payments and between April and October things were going well.

End of oct I got a call from the police to say my dad had been involved in a major accident and was not in a good way. I got the first plane home to scotland to discover my dad had a shattered hip and it was very touch and go. My life had just been turned upside down again.

As I had to buy a flight home and work put me on part pay I didn't realise that I was missing payments and was receiving letters but not phone calls from creditors.

anhway, long story short, dad has made a good recovery and January I returned home a back to work but found a lovely ccj letter from one of the pay day loans due to them only receiving token payments from payplan and as I wasn't at home to receive first claim letter they were going to take action.

I have defaults which come off my account the end of this year so I didn't want anything else on my file- I had no choice out to pay £500 to them last week.

So here I am through the worst, still alive and very positive that from February I can start paying off the 4k left and by the end of 2015 I will finally debt free- I've paid 12.5k so far so know I can and will do this.
Sorry for the long post. It's shows that anything is possible no matter what life throws at you xxxx

Well done for paying so much off your debt in spite of all the family trauma you have had. Here's hoping you will be debt free by the end of this year. Shame you got back in January to the £500 bill but presume you managed to find the money without incurring more debt?

  • Thank you- it's been a tough ride but I am proud that I have cleared the majority of debt-

I've just had to use the bit of emergency money I had and half pay to my dmp for this month- I would encourage everyone to save a little each month for both emergency and savings. I have never really done this and learnt the hard way.

If you are just going into a dmp I would make token payments for a fouple of months just so you can save a bit as you really have no clue what life will chuck at you and when you will need it xx

Sorry to hear about what you've been through chelle. I do think things like this put debt into perspective though. Glad to hear your dad is on the mend.

I have just paid my final Payplan payment, though I still have money I owe to family as I got into a bit of a financial state too a few months ago. I shall look forward the the thread where you declare yourself debt free.

Keep going, you have paid off an amazing amount so far.

  • Thank you very much and well done on your last payment to payplan! It must be a relief to not owe any company- I know u still owe a large amount to family but I would rather owe family than creditors who are quite rightly very brutal to get their money.

You are tight in that when something bad happens it puts life in a whole new light- I have grown as a person and have become even more determined to succeed.

Looking forwards o gearing your progress too- Xxx
