Rice cooker?

Lidl currently have a rice cooker for a good price as part of Asian week. We eat a not insignificant amount of rice, currently I have a large bag of basmati from the world food aisle but often I find it can go a little mushy.
I use the 1 cup rice / 2 cups water and lid on method to cook. Would a rice cooker produce any kind of diff result and in anyone's experiecne, would it be a good investment or just another kitchen gadget?
We don't have a huge amount of space so I don't want to waste money on something that can do the same as a pan with the same results.

As an alternative, have you tried 1.5 cups of water to 1 cup of rinsed rice, uncovered in the microwave. 5 minutes, fluff, 5 minutes.
You can add a stock cube at the start and a cup of frozen peas/sweetcorn at the halfway point for a lazy savoury rice. That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.

My sister bought one many moons ago as her husband's diet at the time was rice heavy. However she soon learned to cook rice as did I.
For a not confident rice cook, they have their place. Myself personally I wouldn't part with my money0 -

My OH doesn't like microwaves so I'm afraid thats not an option if I'm cooking for the two of us.
Not sure what to do with mine in the pan, less water, more rinsing, diff rice (hard to try at 5kg a time) etc.
To be fair, OH thinks it's fine and if I got chopsticks out I could eat it with them, which is fine if I want sticky not fluffy rice

I love my rice cooker. It's the kitchen gadget I use the most, apart from possibly the toaster- or it was until I managed to drop the lid a couple of weeks ago and broke it.
I hope Lidl have got some left.Saving for deposit: Finished! :j

Tonight I managed to drop half a jar of curry sauce over myself trying to get the lid off (one of those with separate spices) - in the time it took to throw clothes into soak and clean up the mess I managed to overcook my rice....I've gone off rice now (and curry) :rotfl:Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

That's exactly why I love the rice cooker. I'm always trying to do bits of washing up, put the clothes in the washing machine, tidy up, jump in the shower or nip out to the shops for a forgotten ingredient while I'm cooking. The rice cooker turns itself off automatically, so it's one less thing to juggle.Saving for deposit: Finished! :j
