Can an executive Director of a Limited company be self-employed and issue invoices to the company on a monthly basis for services rendered?

Unless the rules have changed recently the answer is No. A director is an employee of a company, certainly for benefit purposes. For example the company would have to pay a director SSP if he/she were off sick.
